Inspired by a series of nice Burger King TV commercials that use hit songs
like Wild Thing and Mr. Big Stuff as the background music, I would like to
know what you think is the best song that has been used in a TV commercial.
Thanks.

In article <4uqlnp$n...@babyblue.cs.yale.edu>,

Hmmm let me see... well when I was visiting in England in June, I saw an ad
about Tropical Lilt (the drink) which had this carnival/soca background...
going "raise your hands... like you just don't care.... raise your hands,
etc..." I thought i was Reel-2-Real at first especially when they came out
with "Jazz it up" but it's not that... At least this my fav ad of this year;)
BTW if anyone knows what it is... please tell me :)

Without a doubt: "I'd Like to Teach the World to Sing"

My favorite song is the Good Humor comerical. They are using Scatman
from Scatman John. That's a great song...

I liked that one, too. Remember the way Winn-Dixie used
Aaron Copeland's "Appalachian Spring" for their competing TV
spots? Kind of like those "Beef -- it's what's for dinner"
commercials from the Beef Council.

It was also misappropriated by a Republican canidate somewhere until
Metheny (a Democrat) threatened legal action.

ONE OF MY ALL-TIME FAVORIETS WAS THE A-CAPELLA T.J. MAXX
COMMERCIAL, SOME OF THE LYRICS TO WHICH WERE:

YOU GET THE MAX FOR THE MINIMUM, MINIMUM PRICE
AND IT'S NEVER, EVER THE SAME...
PALCE TWICE!

anyone else remember this? (sorry about typos!)

Neat question! I remember so many, in fact, as a child I wanted to grow
up and sing commercials. There were a lot of great Coca-Cola songs, not
just "Teach the World to Sing" but there was one that went "Birds and bees
and all the flowers and trees and fishes on the line, ice cold Coke in the
back of my throat singing "Hello, summertime!".

I also loved one about the Fiat, I still remember the lyrics:

Any car can get you there but few can make you feel
Like you will behind the wheel of a Fiat
Nothing moves you like a Fiat nothing offers quite the thrill
No other car can set in motion the emotion a Fiat will
Nothing moves you like a Fiat!

Sure beats "Oh, what a feeling, Toyota!", doesn't it? However, I DO own a
Toyota and not a Fiat.

One more thing, I remember one Burger King campaign not because of the
song but the singer, "Two hundred million people, no two are quite the
same ... " was the beginning and it ended, "we're America's Burger King."
I loved that woman's voice. She turned out to be the late Phyllis Hyman,
who achieved some moderate fame as a singer before she took her own life
last year. That was a magical voice introduced to me by a commercial.

Thanks for a great question!

Laurie

A while back there was a Timotai (sp?) Shampoo commercial with
this really cool new-age tribal thing happening. By far I think this is
the best commercial music to date. It actually inspired me on a couple of
my songs.

My favorite TV commercial song has to be "Orinocco flow" by Enya.
It was on a Crystal Lite commercial a few years back.

"The stars'll always shine, the birds'll always sing,
As long as there is thirst, there's always the real thing.
Coca-cola classic is ALWAYS the one,
Wherever there is fun, there's always Coca-cola!"

I also like one that was played back in 1990/1991, about Kleenex of some
kind. Had a bunch of babies singing:

"I've been waiting, waiting so long, bee-doo-bee-doo,
For you, to come along, be-doo-bee-doo"

ANOUNCER TALKS.

"Come softly, darling!"

Anyone remember that>

Sincerely,
Gina =)
