Two of my favorite recent albums are Los Lobos' KIKO and Suzanne Vega's
99.9F, both produced by Mitchell Froom. The similarity in sound
between the two albums is obvious.

Does anyone know what else Froom has done? Does he have any solo albums,
or is he strictly a producer?

Thanks,

Check out the first three Crowded House albums ("Crowded House", "Temple of
Low Men" and "Woodface") - "TOLM" in particular is brilliantly produced and an
excellent recording, although it is not as accessible as the other two.
I think he is also responsible for "Green" by R.E.M. and possibly "Out of Time"
but I'm sure some R.E.M. fan will put me right.

As for solo work, I've never heard of him in anything but a producer's role,
but I could be wrong.

Mitchell Froom has never been involved with R.E.M. Scott Litt has been
responsible for the R.E.M. sound ever since "Document" from 1987.

On the other hand, Mitchell Froom produced the second, self-titled
solo album from Tim Finn (formerly of Split Enz and Crowded House.)

Mitchell Froom actually recorded a solo album a long time ago. More
surprisingly, perhaps, he wrote the music for two Seventies
experimental/quasi-porn films called `Cafe Flesh' and `Dr. Caligari'.

This all according to the Crowded House mailing list (to be found at
house-...@casbah.nwu.edu) where Mitchell Froom is a frequent
topic.

Froom played keyboards on the first Gamma (or was it the second?) release,
which featured Ronnie Montrose. He also played keys on the first solo release
by Wall Of Voodoo's Stan Ridgeway, The Big Heat.

To which I adds:

The last few Richard Thompson albums have been Mitchell Froom
productions (something about which I have been less than overjoyed).
Let's see, I think he did "Across a Crowded Room", and ... my memory fails
me. Must be getting old. Oh, well, I'm sure someone will chime in and
fill in the blanks, or else I'll look it up when I get home and post it later.

I don't really like his production all that much. It's ok, but
I'd rather hear RT work with someone who has less of a distinctive sound.
I'd like to hear a Richard Thompson album, not a Mitchell Froom album.
Just my opinion, etc....
