I recently came across an LP in a second hand shop by Red Krayola entitled
"God Bless the Red Krayola and all Who Sail With It" dating from 1968 and
I also have a track on a compilation by Red Crayola dating from 1981 which
seems to contain one of the same people (also Epic Soundtracks from Swell
Maps) both the LP and the track are great, but can anyone tell me anything
about this band? Where are they from and what else have they done?

Replies by email would be much appreciated,

Ed...

The band was led by the great Mayo Thompson. It was originally a
psychedelic band (late '60s), reformed as The Red Crayola with Art
& Language in the punk days (late '70s) with members of the Raincoats,
Lora Logic (of the band Essential Logic), etc. Other Red Krayola LPs:
"The Parable of Arable Land," "Soldier Talk," and (with Art & Language)
"Black Snakes" and "Kangaroo?" The band was recently reformed by Thompson
and released a single. Also, check out Thompson's great 1970 solo release
"Corky's Debt to His Father," just reissued on CD.

also, there will be a new album, The red krayola, out soon. It features
Mayo along with Tom Watson, Steven Prina, Albert Oehlin, John McEntire,
Dave Grubbs, and myself. it's great (i personally think mayo and dave are
an impeccable team.) There is also this great Saddle sore 7", which was
recorded i think just a month after Corky's debt. It's just so damn
beautiful.....
all the best!!!
