I recently came across the album "The First of a Million Kisses" by
_Fairground Attraction_. It's really beautiful music, but ... I can
find nothing else by them, anywhere. I believe _FA_ is pretty big in
England. Can someone tell me more about this group, and whether they
have other stuff out? A million thanks.

Unfortunately, FA split up a while back, when Edie Reader (the vocalist)
left; I believe she is following a solo career. She appeared in last year's
TV series, You're Cheatin' Heart, written by John Byrne (who also wrote Tutti
Frutti).

They're also pretty big here in Scotland, Wales and I'd probably
hazard a guess in Ireland, too.

Anyway, they also have another album, released a couple or so years
ago, called 'Ay fond kiss', which is just as good as FOAMK. They're
a Glasgow-based band, but have now since split up, with the lead
singer (Edie Reader) fronting another band.

And lo, s...@cs.hw.ac.uk (Steve McGowan) spake unto the masses saying:

Which explains a lot :-)

I believe some of the other members of the band have gone onto other things
since as well. The Eddi Reader project, although nominally a new band,
sounds very much as though it's pretty much Eddi Reader + some bunch of
backing musicians who really aren't very important. There's a new album due
out very soon.

I can't believe I just posted this...I can't stand Eddi Reader and/or
Fairground Attraction.

Anyone know her full name? A `Sadenia Reader' who sounds remarkably like
her features heavily on backing vocals on John Foxx's fourth album _In
Mysterious Ways_.

On the subject of Scottish music - something to possibly look out for in
the not-too-distant future is the forthcoming EP by A Dali Surprise. This
is principally a solo effort by ex-Win man Russell Burn who's taken himself
off to Barcelona and put together a long EPs worth of very strange material
indeed. The one track I've heard so far is best described as steel guitar
synth classical dance reggae. Out on Creation next month. Completely unlike
what he's done before but personally I hear a hint of Win in the general
cacophony and esoteric mix'n'match of styles present in his new project. It
also takes my personal project of figuring out where all the Win members
have gone one step further. Now I've just got to find the musical
whereabouts of the lead singer, David Henderson. I don't suppose anyone
happens to know?
