Does this group have some great historical significance
in the stream of music or should I just go ahead and
record over this? One would think with Roma Baran and
Connie Plank producing some of this...
Thanks - Ihor

Actually, both the group and the album are called Humpe-Humpe, although I
don't know why.

I think you have more info than I could have given you right there 8-}
I've never heard anything from them before or since that album, but I do
really like their song "Yama-ha", the lyrics to which are nothing but
names of Japanese companies - ("Yamaha Mitsubishi Toyota Suzuki Honda").
It might be one of the last things Conny Plank produced before he died. I
think you should keep it, but I like the album...

I haven't heard the record in question, but if memory serves me
right I know which one you are thinking of. Humpe is Annette
Humpe and another female Humpe, the name might be Inga. As you
might guess, they're German.
Annette Humpe was once upon a time member of Ideal who produced
three quite good albums: "Ideal" (to be played at 45 rpm!), "Bi
Nuu" and "Das Ernst des Lebens". Annette Humpe wrote the most
of Ideal's lyrics and took some of the lead vocals too, the
other being sung by the male vocalist. Their lyrics are definitely
among the better in the genre, and are often quite witty. ("Ich
brauch eines auf der Welt, ein schoener Frau mit Geld. Eine die
mich unterhaelt".)
The albums came out 1980 to 1983 and carry that flavour. The
first, which I like less except for "Telepati" is rawer and
slightly punky, the other two more pure clean "new wave". You
could claim that sometimes their music is a little too cold,
but what do you expect from a group with a song called "Eiszeit"?
Despite that I liked Ideal, I never checked out the Humpe album.
One reason being that they sang in English instead of German.
(Seldom a good sign.)
"Die horizont rueckt naeher und was keine weiss.
Jedes denkt das eine, doch dafuer ist zu heiss.
Sex. Sex in der Wueste."

In the real world there are no colours.
It has some historical interest to me, namely
because this is *new* history for me!
You don't say whether you like the music or not...Is its
potential historical significance the only criterion?
Would you please describe the music? Also, please
post any responses you get for your call for further
information. This must have been one of the last Conny
Plank productions...didn't he die around 1986 or 1987?

Actually, they metamorphized into the group Swimming With Sharks, who
released an album on Atlantic a while back.
Rolling Stone, in their original review, said something about Humpe Humpe
being a kinky ABBA. It didn't do much for me, and I like ABBA...
