7. This week's top 50:

We have yet another number one single. Two weeks ago, it was
Vanessa Amorosi with her first ever chart-topper, "This Is Who
I Am", and last week the Black Eyed Peas managed to peak at
the top with "Meet Me Halfway", their third number one single
in a row this year. Now this week we have a new number one,
this time from Kesha who debuted at number 28 just two weeks
ago, but bolted to number 4 last week with "Tik Tok". Kesha's
single is going gangbuster on the charts, now bulleting straight
up to number one this week. This is her second number one
of the year, having been a featured artist on Flo Rida's
chart-topping "Right Round" from back in March.

Two huge new leaps into the top 10 this week. Lady GaGa's
"Bad Romance" debuted at number 16 last week, but it bullets
13 places to end up at number 3 this week. 3OH!3's collaboration
with Katy Perry on "Starstrukk" is finally taking off, climbing
from number 13 to 8 this week, giving the group their second
top 10 hit after the number 3 success of "Don't Trust Me" from
earlier in the year.

Dropping out of the top 10 is Guy Sebastian's number one hit
"Like It Like That" and Glee Cast's "Halo / Walking On Sunshine".

So what happened to last week's 5 new hits? Jay Sean's number
9 debut with "Down" keeps climbing, up to number 6 this week.
We saw Lady GaGa go top 3 after debuting at number 16 last week
with "Bad Romance". Pitbull's "Hotel Room Service" has made
positive headway, up from number 27 to 21. Also making steady
progress is the Guy Sebastian and Jordin Sparks duet "Art Of
Love" which is up from number 34 to 27. However, last week's
final new entry, Wolfmother's "New Moon Rising", was unable to
sustain its number 50 debut, dropping out of the top 50 this week.

Before looking at this week's new entries, let's consider
the ever shrinking CD singles market. While we know that digital
track sales dominate single sales and that CD single sales are
just like a drop in the ocean in comparison, an interesting
trend is emerging. Within this week's 50 biggest selling
singles (all formats), 9 (or 18%) are of Australian origin.
Yet within the top 50 CD singles chart, 19 (or 38%) of the music
is from Australian artists. And for several weeks, the two biggest
selling CD singles have been Vanessa Amorosi's "This Is Who I Am"
and Guy Sebastian's "Like It Like That" - both are from Australian
artists. What is pushing up the percentage of Australians on
the CD singles chart is the amount of music that is simply
not getting much interest in digital format. Those 19 Australian
singles are listed below, with their corresponding positions
on the overall singles chart. Lots of little-known artist names
in the list below!

1. (main chart: 4) THIS IS WHO I AM - Vanessa Amorosi
2. (main chart: 11) LIKE IT LIKE THAT - Guy Sebastian

16. KNUCKLES - Total Karnage

21. RECORDINGS OF THE MIDDLE EAST - Middle East
23. ALL ABOUT ME - Hugh Sheridan
25. JUST CAN'T THROW US AWAY - Hugh Sheridan
29. TAME IMPALA - Tame Impala
30. LIGHT OF DAY - The Next

released "Curtis" and then reworked the original material on
"Before I Self Destruct". The first official single from
the new album is "Baby By Me" which features guest vocals
by Ne-Yo and you'll see Kelly Rowland in the song's music
video. "Baby By Me" debuts at number 32 this week.

43. OUT OF CONTROL - Tin Alley

Melbourne rock group Tin Alley were formed in 2007 and
take their name from the laneway at Melbourne University
where some of the band members studied. They independently
released their debut album "Everyturn" in 2007 and their
second album "Out Of Control" will be released shortly.
From that album comes the title track which debuts at
number 43 this week.

45. ACCORDING TO YOU - Orianthi
CD single: #18
Digital track: (not in top 40)
Music video: www.youtube.com/watch?v=RK14Bu3ET-s
Song lyrics: www.tinyurl.com/yks53mt
Artist website: www.orianthi.com

Final new entry of the week is from 24 year-old Orianthi
Panagaris, a vocalist and guitarist from Adelaide. She
was Michael Jackson's guitarist for his comeback tour
"This Is It", and she rehersed with Michael until his death
which occured shortly before the tour was set to get underway.
Orianthi's first album, "Violet Journey", was independently
released in 2005, then re-released commercially in 2007.
Now Orianthi has released her second album "Believe"
which features her first single "According To You" which
debuts at number 45 this week.
