SECTION 1: COMMENTARY
-----------------------------------------------------------------
This week WATERFALLS exits the TOP 70 after 47 weeks with 2883
points.
If you remember, our SONG OF THE YEAR 1995 was WATER RUNS DRY by
BOYZ II MEN with 2882 points.
Both songs, however, are beaten by RUN-AROUND which has 42 weeks
and 2959 points. The all-time champ, so far.
-----------------------------------------------------------------
By the way, we've had a lot of letters asking our opinion about
BILLBOARD's Single Of The Year, 1995: GANGSTA'S PARADISE by
Coolio.
Just one thought: If you go the HOT 100 SINGLES AIRPLAY, 1995
you'll find GANGSTA'S PARADISE at No. 50.
BILLBOARD tells us that the HOT 100 is a combination of sales
and airplay. But, if the SINGLE OF THE YEAR is No. 50 in airplay,
that indicates that SALES is the only important factor for them.
Besides, GANGSTA'S PARADISE is a RAP song which is mainly where
the singles buying public is. On the other hand, WATER RUNS DRY
is the third single from an album that has sold 11 million of
copies. So there's no incentive for those 11 million to buy the
song again, right?
We stand by our ranking.
If you consider radio airplay, TV rotation, singles sales and
albums sales: the most popular song of 1995 is WATER RUNS DRY.
And the best-sold single of the year is GANGSTA'S PARADISE, no
doubt about that.

i don't quite understand your logic here. if it sold more records, then it
is the public's #1. or are you suggesting that radio MD's should determine
the #1 "on behalf of" the record-buying nation?
