As I recall "Timothy" was done by a group called "The Bouys" and I seem
to think it was written by that gut that did the "If you like pina
coladas" song. (E-mail me if you remember his name!)

Yeah, right...where in that song do you get that impression?

Right.

No, he doesn't. Check out _The Wacky Top 40_, by Bruce Nash and Allan Zullo:

"[The record company] copped out on the cannibalism," said
Holmes. "They started a rumor that 'Timothy' was a mule, so it
wasn't so bad that the survivors ate him. I was offended at the
idea of this poor defenseless mule being eaten.

"And still to this day there are people who ask me, 'Now you
gotta tell me. Was Timothy a mule?' I say, 'No, Timothy was a
man - and they ate him!'"

>Yeah, right...where in that song do you get that impression?

The band posed with a mule for the LP cover shot.

Here are the complete lyrics and chords. Incidentally, my old bar band once
did this as part of a medley with "New York Mining Disaster 1941":

"Timothy"
(Rupert Holmes)

Intro:

Am G/B D [2x]
/ / / / / / / /

Verse 1:

Am G/B D
Trapped in a mine that had caved in
Fmaj7 [x33210] G6 [x55430]
And everyone knows the only ones left
Dm7 [x57565] G D
Were Joe and me and Tim

When they broke through to pull us free
The only ones left to tell the tale
Were Joe and me

Chorus 1:

C Bm7 Fmaj7 Am
Timothy, Timothy, where on earth did you go?
C Bm7 Fmaj7 Am G/B D
Timothy, Timothy, God why don't I know?

Verse 2:

Hungry as hell no food to eat
And Joe said that he would sell his soul
For just a piece of meat
Water enough to drink for two
And Joe said to me, "I'll have a swig
And then there's some for you."

Chorus 2:

Timothy, Timothy, Joe was looking at you
Timothy, Timothy, God what did we do?

Verse 3:

I must have blacked out just around then
'Cause the very next thing that I could see
Was the light of the day again
My stomach was full as it could be
And nobody ever got around
To finding Timothy

[repeat chorus 1]

Coda:

Am G/B D
Timothy... [repeat to fade]
