Ok you Brits listen up (Andrew Farmer, this means you), I heard a Brave New
Waves profile on a group called Chumba Wumba the other night. Their music
ranged from acappella political folk to some (slightly sampled) hot
funk that I haven't been able to get out of my head for the last week.
The album they featured (I just caught the tail end of it) was something
called Snap! (punctuation mine, it's hard to see it on the radio).
I think the tune I've been infected with is the title track but they also
played one called Tianamen Square.
Any info on these folks?

"Yes but what do you think of Boney M's Christmas album?"
How about a partial answer from California? :-)
The band name is one word, Chumbawamba, and their latest LP
is called Slap! (ya got the punctuation right :-) and is on
Agitprop records. An excellent LP!!! My favorite song is
"That's how grateful we are."
They are a DIY band in the Crass, Ex tradition and have been
around for at least ten years (I vaguely remember seeing
them on the Elephant Table compilation which was released
in the very late 70s). They seem to be pretty well known in
the punk and industrial 'scenes' even though their music is
more eclectic than the stereotypes of the two genres.
Also, as Nou mentioned, all of their work is political.
Anyone have more info? I would imagine a discography might
be hard to create...any takers???
(kinda like, "boy this cheese tastes bad...try it")
