RATIONALE: rec.music.artists.beatles.info
The group rec.music.beatles, one of the first created in the rec.music.*
Besides the discussions, there are many posts studying in detail the
music of the Beatles, explaining trivia about their discography, or
history. Since 1994, however, the number of articles posted every day
has steadily grown. Even if we do not consider the somewhat peculiar
present period, with all the hype about _The Beatles Anthology_ leading
to peaks of 500-800 messages per day, there are usually 200-300 messages
every day, most of which from people who just found the newsgroup.
Many FAQ files have been set up to help these newcomers find the answers
to the question they pose, but we fear that many casual readers choose
not to read the group because of the high volume of postings. To split
the group among the threads: we think however that the creation of a
specific group collecting informative messages, which runs in parallel
with rec.music.beatles, will prove valuable to casual readers, without
affecting general readers or increasing global traffic on Usenet.
The new group will welcome any informative articles or substantive
reviews about Beatles and their work from everyone. All messages will
be crossposted to rec.music.beatles, since there is no intention of
creating an elite newsgroup.
The name of the proposed group has been chosen to give the casual reader
a clear understanding of what can be found in the group itself. It has
been chosen to put it under rec.music.artists hierarchy both because
this is the current trend for newsgroups about artists and because
having both rec.music.beatles and rec.music.beatles.info could cause a
loss of performance on many servers.
END RATIONALE
CHARTER: rec.music.artists.beatles.info
rec.music.artists.beatles.info is a moderated group for posting
of informative material and substantive reviews about everything
related to the Beatles. It is meant to be parallel to the present
group rec.music.beatles, in that the messages will be crossposted
to both groups and discussion will be held in rec.music.beatles.
rec.music.beatles.artists.info should be interesting for those people
who want to know more about the Beatles, but have no time to read all
postings in rec.music.beatles.
END CHARTER.
