Today, I came across the album (vinyl) that Manfred Mann recorded
"Blinded by the Light" on, in a used record store. The lyrics were
printed on the back. According to the album, the chorus is actually :
Blinded by the light
WRAPPED up like a deuce
Another runner in the night.
Anyway, since we are at it, why not post the lyrics for the
entire song, so that all of us can puzzle over what Bruce
(& Manfred) were trying to say.
Ok, ok, you talked me into it ... :-)
These lyrics (reprinted not necessarily with permission) were
gathered from a variety of places.
First and foremost from someone who posted
the lyrics a few months ago (with a couple of errors,
but enough to give me a good starting point.
Plus, I have just edited that original file :-)
Secondly, from the back of the album, I saw today.
(BTW - the name of the album is "The Roaring Silence" ;
available in the U.S. on CD, but currently only as an import)
Lastly amd mostly, from me listening to my CD over and over
and over and over.....
Anyway, here it is, as performed by Manfred Mann's Earth Band. Enjoy !!!
Blinded by the Light
Lyrics by Bruce Springsteen
Copyright 1976
Chorus: Blinded by the light
Wrapped up like a deuce
Another runner in the night
Blinded by the light
Wrapped up like a deuce
Another runner in the night
Blinded by the light
Wrapped up like a deuce
Another runner in the night (fading)
Madman dummers bummers, Indians in the summer,
With a teenage diplomat
In the dumps with the mumps
As the adolescent pumps his way into his hat
With a boulder on my shoulder, feeling kinda older,
I tripped the merry-go-round
With this very unpleasing sneezing and wheezing,
the calliope crashed to the ground
(pickup)
the calliope crashed to the ground
(chorus)
Some silicon sister with a manager mister
told me I got what it takes.
She said "I'll turn you on, sonny, to something strong.
Play the song with the funky break"
And go-cart Mozart was checking out the weather charts
see if it was safe outside
And little Early Pearly came by in his curly whirly
and asked me if I needed a ride
(pickup)
asked me if I needed a ride
(chorus)
Bridge: She got down but she never got tight
She's gonna make it to the night
She's gonna make it through the night
(break with soul-stirring solo)
(But Momma, that's where the fun is)
(But Momma, that's where the fun is)
Momma always told me not to look
into the eyes of the sun
But Momma, that's where the fun is
Some brimstone-baritone, anti-cyclone Rolling Stone
Preacher from the East,
says dethrown the dictaphone, hit it in its funny bone,
that's where they expect it least
It's a new mown chaperone standing in the corner
watching the young girls dance
and some fresh-sewn moonstone is messing with his frozen zone,
reminding him of romance
(pickup)
the calliope crashed to the ground
(chorus)
(chorus with first verse "Madman drummers bummers....")
(chorus with ... )
Now Scott with the sling-shot finally found a tender spot
and throws his lover in the sand
and some blood-shot forget-me-not said "Daddy's within earshot,
save the buck shot. Turn up the band"
(chorus with verse 2 "Some silicon sister....")
She got down but she never got tight
She's gonna make it through the night

There it is. Hope it was somewhat useful(?).
