7. This week's top 50:
The post-Christmas sales slump is in full-force this week as the top 5
singles remain unchanged except for Celine Dion and Chumbawamba swapping
positions. This gives Canada's 29 year-old Celine Dion the fourth top 3
hit of her career in Australia with "My Heart Will Go On". This is song
is featured in the movie "Titanic" - the soundtrack of which has bulleted
to the number one position on the Australian albums chart this week.
The new single from the Spice Girls is sleek, smooth and sophisticated and
is this week's biggest mover. The second track lifted from the "Spice
World" album, titled "Too Much", climbs 16 places, from number 29 to
13 this week, meaning that each of the Spice Girl's six single releases
in Australia has made the top 13, including their only chart topper so
far, their debut single from 1996, "Wannabe". Meanwhile, the Spice
Girls' movie was a bit of a disappointment in its first week of release
in Australia. Expected to be the biggest movie of the week, it only
managed to be the 6th largest grossing movie of that week.
Kylie Minogue made a landmark debut on the Australian albums chart last
week with the long awaited release of "Impossible Princess". This is her
first album since the 1994 release of her "Kylie Minogue" album which
yielded the number one single, "Confide In Me". "Impossible Princess"
debuted at number 4 last week and has slipped back to number 8 this week,
already being accredited as a gold selling album. The first track
released from this album, "Some Kind Of Bliss", had a very disappointing
performance on the UK and Australian charts, and wasn't even able to make
the top 20 in either country. However, things were different with the
second single. "Did It Again" debuted at number 14 in the UK and reached
number 15 here last week and there's still some life left in that single.
Radio stations across the country have been overwhelmingly supportive of
both the singles released from "Impossible Princess" which has gone a long
way to the success of that album. The last album of Kylie's to chart
higher than "Impossible Princess" was the 1992 release of "Greatest Hits"
which marked the end of her association with the highly successful English
hit music factory, Stock/Aitken/Waterman.
Three new entries into the chart this week. Coming in at number 39 is
the second release from Australian band Regurgitator's "Unit album".
The single "Black Bugs" is the follow-up to their number 41 hit "Everyday
Formula". American group Days Of The New have just released their
self-titled debut album and the first single from that, "Touch, Peel
And Stand", comes in at number 47 this week. Check out their web site
at http://www.outpostrec.com/days/. And lastly, Matchbox 20 are
riding high in Australia with the top 10 success of their single "Push"
and their platinum selling top 5 album, "Yourself Or Someone Like You".
Their latest single is "3 A.M" and it comes in at number 48 this week.

9. This week's feature song lyrics
-----------------
3AM - Matchbox 20
-----------------
She say it's cold outside and she hands me my raincoat
She's always worried about things like that
She says it's all gonna end and it might as well be my fault
And she only sleeps when it's raining
And she screams and her voice is straining
CHORUS:
She says baby
It's 3 am I must be lonely
When she says baby
Well I can't help but be scared of it all sometimes
Says the rain's gonna wash away I believe it
Ahe's got a little bit of something, God it's better than nothing
And in her color portrait world she believes that she's got it all
She swears the moon don't hang quite as high as it used to
And she only sleeps when it's raining
And she screams and her voice is straining
(CHORUS)
She believes that life is made up of all that you're used to
And the clock on the wall has been stuck at three for days, and days
She thinks that happiness is a mat that sits on her doorway
But outside it's stopped raining
(CHORUS)
