G'day all,

I want to put together a tape of noises for a type of "rock-riff" quiz.

The songs must be well known hits (60s - 90s)

Noises might be a car horn, footsteps, bottle smashing, a crowd of people laughing etc.

If you can help, please name the artist, song and noise: Bryan Ferry - Love is the drug - car.

Looking forward to your suggestions....

Peter.

Jackal has a song called "LumberJack" I believe. Rush Limbaugh uses it for
his environmental updates.

Don't know how recognizable these songs are, but:

"Accidents" - Thunderclap Newman has a car crash in it.
"In a Glass House" - Gentle Giant has the sounds of breaking glass
Another Gentle Giant song has the sound of a coin dropping on a table.
"Sploosh" - Ozric Tentacles has the sound of objects dropping into water
"Filthy Rich" - Small Faces has the sound of coins dropping into a dish
"I'm Mandy Fly Me" - 10CC has the sound of an airplane in it.
"Bicycle Race: - Queen has the sound of a bicycle bell in it.
"10^0 = Nothing at All" - Jethro Tull has the sound of a person walking
down a hall. [I think that's the title]
Doesn't Meatloaf - Bat Out of Hell have a revving engine in it ?

I know there's a ton more, but I'm drawing a blank right now.

That "The Boys in the Band" from "Octupus". Another Gentle Giant song
with noise is "Underground" on "Civilian". Then again, the request were
for hit songs, so alas Gentle Giant does not qualify. :-(

>"I'm Mandy Fly Me" - 10CC has the sound of an airplane in it.

They also have "One Night in Paris" which has an opening with various
street noise.

There are of course many others. Did anyone mention "The Letter" by
the Box Tops? Isn't there an aeroplane somewhere? Or am I making
things up? Why am I too lazy to go and play the single that I actually
own?

Lots on "The Wall," too. Phone ringing, etc. Been a while since I've
listened to it.

How's about:
Station To Station (David Bowie) - Train pulling out of a station, going
into a tunnel, rebounding from speaker to speaker
"Heroes" (David Bowie) - Not really a sound as such, but the trademark
clanging metallic rhythm was achieved by Bowie and producer Tony Visconti
banging an ashtray in the studio
It's No Game Part 1 (David Bowie) -Starts with the sound of a vacuum
cleaner and the Cobra-like rattle of a castanet
The Wedding (Bowie again) - Wedding bells
Babooshka (Kate Bush, phew, that makes a change) - Breaking glass

Slan leat,

Dara.

"They're Coming To Take Me Away, Ha-Haaa!", Napoleon XIV: ambulance
siren

"Orange Crush", R.E.M.: Flying helicopter sound played during bridge

"A Day in the Life", Beatles: High-pitched dog whistle at the end of the
song...does this count? If it does, you can add the inner groove on
"Sgt. Pepper".

"Centerfield", John Fogarty: Baseball bat hitting ball

"Freeze-Frame", The J. Geils Band: Cameras snapping...was this
mentioned?

"Pac-Man Fever", Buckner & Garcia: Various Pac-Man sound effects. Didn't
they put out a whole album about different video games? If so, I'd
imagine each song would be chock full o' SFX.

I have five or six more but I just looked up the original post, and it
asks for "well-known hits", so I'll stop here. All the above WERE
well-known hits: "Pac-Man Fever" hit #9, I think.
I just noticed this thread is getting crossposted. I'm responding to the
one on rec.games.trivia, so don't flame me if these were already
mentioned in other NGs.
