The Four Lads and Dean Martin both in 1956. The Four Lads rendition
went to Number 3 on the charts. Dean Martin's version went to somewhere
in the tenties on the charts.....

There were 3 different hit versions of this song in 1956. The biggest was
by the Four Lads (#3 on the pop chart). The others were by Dean Martin
(#22) and the Mills Brothers (#57). Hope this helped!

George Formby, the Lancershire lad, complete with banjo, also
recorded a version. I believe it pre-dated the others.

Shorty Long, an entertainer from Reading, PA, was one of the very first... He was in the original Broadway cast of Most Happy Fella and recorded Standing on the Corner on the original cast recording. He led a group of musicians and singers called The Santa Fe Rangers which performed along with many guest country players at Long's venue called The Santa Fe Ranch. Shorty and his wife, Dolly Dimples, were very popular during the 1950's.
