7. This week's top 50:
Aerosmith spend a second week at number one with "I Don't Want To Miss A
Thing". Meanwhile, some interesting things happen this week in the top
10. Bolting up from number 6 to 2 is the Spice Girls with "Viva Forever".
This equals the chart peak of their mid-1997 hit "2 Become 1" and the
only single of theirs to have charted higher was their debut release,
"Wannabe". As a general rule, subsequent singles released from a
particular album by an artist tend to do poorer on the charts than the
previous singles. However, the Spice Girls' "Spiceworld" album is one
case in which this could not be more further from the truth. Their
first single off that album, "Spice Up Your Life", peaked at number 8,
and, as expected, their second single, "Too Much", peaked lower at number
9. However, they released "Stop" which peaked surprisingly at number 5,
and now the fourth single from their album, the ballad "Viva Forever",
is this week at number 2. Meanwhile, another act to defy logic on the
charts is Steps. "Last Thing On My Mind" peaked at number 5 four weeks
ago, and after a gradual drop over the past few weeks down to number 11,
the single bullets up from number 11 back up to its former peak position
of number 5. The consumer's desire for Steps continues on the albums
chart with their debut album, "Step One", charging up from number 13 to 5.
With their recent promotional tour of Australia and TV ads promoting their
album, this English group are riding high on a wave of popularity here.
And finally, top cap off a rather curious top 10, another group, this time
the all-girl Iris group B*witched, make an interesting re-entry back into
the top 10 after falling to number 13 last week.
New into the charts this week is the latest release from Sydney male
4-piece group, Human Nature. The first single off their forthcoming
"Counting Down" album is the ballad "Cruel" which enters the charts at
number 14 this week, being one of the most added songs to radio playlists
across Australia recently. Despite a slow start to their career in 1996
with the release of two mildy successful singles, they moved away from the
pop/dance sound of these first releases into more vocal and harmonic
ballads which really got their career off the ground and set them apart
from everyone else. Their double A-side single "Wishes / Last Christmas"
was a huge top 10 hit for them over the Christmas of 1996, and their
success in 1997 included a swag of hits plus the top 10 singles "Don't
Say Goodbye" and the collaboration with John Farnham titled "Everytime
You Cry".
The second new entry into the charts this week comes from Melbourne's
Tina Area. The fourth single from her "In Deep" album is a remake
of the old Foreigner hit, "I Want To Know What Love Is", which comes
in at number 36 this week. Tina does a superb version of this song,
and with Foreigner band member Lou Gramm doing backing vocals on this
track, it is sure to be an international smash.
Take That bad boy Robbie Williams continues his successful solo career
this week, three years after the demise of the highly successful band
that he was once a member of. His album "Life Thru A Lens" features the
singles "Old Before I Die", the ballad "Angels", and now his new single
"Let Me Entertain You". Unlike "Angels", this is quite a heavy sounding
rock single, and in the music video to this song, you'll see Robbie
imitating the band Kiss with the facial make-up he wears. In the UK,
Robbie's new single is titled "Millennium" and it debuts at number one
over there this week. This is the first release from his forthcoming
album "I've Been Expecting You".
Korn debuted at number one on the Australian albums chart at the end of
last month with "Follow The Leader", and the first single from that
album, "Got The Life", comes in at number 48 this week. The last time
we saw Korn in the top 50 singles chart was back in mid 1997 when
"A.D.I.D.A.S. (All Day I Dream About Sex)" peaked at number 45.
The final new entry into the charts this week is at number 49. It
comes from Lovestation and is titled "Teardrops". And yes, this is a
cover of Womack And Womack's number 2 hit from early 1989, except it
has a more funkier and contemporary sound to it. And while the husband
and wife team of Womack And Womack enjoyed huge success with "Teardrops",
their follow-up, "Celebrate The World", struggled on the charts, peaking
at only number 39, and since then, they have been absent from the
Australian charts.

9. This week's feature song lyrics
--------------------
CRUEL - Human Nature
--------------------
You can say love's, forever,
And find it never stays,
In you I've recovered,
The one thing that must remain.
I'm tired of a world undone,
I've figured out you're my setting sun,
It's cruel,
The way I'm needing you,
I guess I'll play the fool,
It's my heart not my mind,
And it's taking over,
Cruel,
Suddenly it's true,
No longer can I choose,
It's in you I'm defined,
And there is no other.
Oh, it's cruel,
Oh, it's cruel.
I can hold back, emotions,
Get lost, in a maze,
But this urgency, tells me,
I just, can't refrain.
Dreams have come, and passed me by,
But now it's time, to redefine.
It's cruel,
The way I'm needing you,
I guess I'll play the fool,
It's my heart not my mind,
And it's taking over,
Cruel,
Suddenly it's true,
No longer can I choose,
It's in you I'm defined,
And there is no other.
I've seen it come and go so many times,
But this is critical,
The truth, I can't hide,
And I don't know why.
It's cruel,
The way I'm needing you,
I guess I'll play the fool,
It's my heart not my mind,
And it's taking over,
Cruel,
Suddenly it's true,
No longer can I choose,
It's in you I'm defined,
And there is no other.

I WANT TO KNOW WHAT LOVE IS - Tina Arena
----------------------------------------
Gotta take a little time
A little time to think things over
I better read between the lines
In case I need it when I'm older
This mountain I must climb
Feels like a world upon my shoulders
Through the clouds I see love shine
It keeps me warm as life grows colder
In my life there's been heartache and pain
I don't know if I can face it again
Can't stop now, I've travelled so far
To change this lonely life
I want to know what love is
I want you to show me
I want to know what love is
I want you to show me
I'm gonna take a little time
A little time to look around me
I've got nowhere left to hide
It looks like love has finally found me
In my life there's been heartache and pain
I don't know if I can face it again
Can't stop now, I've travelled so far
To change this lonely life
I want to know what love is
I want you to show me
I want to know what love is
I want you to show me
Lord help me to be strong
On this road I travel on
When I'm lost and lonely find me!
My journey's just begun
And I'm not the only me!
'Cause I wanna know
I wanna know
I want to know what love is
I want you to show me
I want to know what love is
I want you to show me
--------------------------------------
LET ME ENTERTAIN YOU - Robbie Williams
--------------------------------------
Hell is gone and heaven's here
There's nothing left for you to fear
Shake your arse come over here
Now scream
I'm a burning effigy
Of everything I used to be
You're my rock of empathy, my dear
So come on let me entertain you
Let me entertain you
Life's too short for you to die
So grab yourself an alibi
Heaven knows your mother lied
Mon cher
Separate your right from wrongs
Come and sing a different song
The kettle's on so don't be long
Mon cher
So come on let me entertain you
Let me entertain you
Look me up in the yellow pages
I will be your rock of ages
Your see through fads and your crazy phases yeah
Little Bo Peep has lost his sheep
He popped a pill and fell asleep
The dew is wet but the grass is sweet my dear
Your mind gets burned
With the habits you've learned
But we're the generation that's got to be heard
You're tired of your teachers and your school's a drag
You're not going to end up like your mum and dad
So come on let me entertain you
Let me entertain you
Let me entertain you
He may be good he may be outta sight
But he can't be here so come around tonight
Here is the place where the feeling grows
You gotta get high before you taste the lows
So come on
Let me entertain you
Let me entertain you
So come on let me entertain you
Let me entertain you
Come on come on come on come on...
