7. This week's top 50:

Fergie spends a 9th week at number one with "Big Girls" don't
cry, having returned to number one on the digital track chart
after Kayne West's "Stronger" gave up the top spot. On the
overall singles chart, Kanye West holds firm at number two
for a second week with "Stronger". And then the rest of the
top 10 starts to get interesting, with 3 of this week's 8
new entries landing straight into the top 10. This results
in some big falls, with Mika diving four spots from number
4 to 8 with "Love Today", and Pink and Crystal Waters
dropping out of the top 10.

However, the biggest fall of all within the top 10 belongs to
the novelty record by former Australian rugby league player
Paul "The Chief" Harragon. "That's Gold" debuted at number
8 last week and tumbles an incredible 39 spots down to
number 47 this week. Is this the biggest drop out of the
top 10 by a single in chart history? It is, for a single
that's dropped out of the top 10 and down somewhere into
the top 50 within a week. Up until now, the biggest such
drop occured when Aqua's "Doctor Jones" tumbled 27 spots
from number 10 to 37 in March 1998, aided by the deletion
of the single from production. However, there have been
two other singles that have dropped right out of the top
50 after being in the top 10 the previous week. Nirvana's
"About A Girl" debuted at number 4 in November 1994, but
was not seen the following week, due to a very limited number
of copies of the single being available for sale. And then
there's Adelaide singer Francesca who debuted at number 3 in
September 2002 with "Way Of The World" due to single sales at
concerts, and then the single was never seen again in the charts.

So 8 big new hits this week, all coming in within the top 30
and 3 right into the top 10.

3. LOUD - Shannon Noll
CD singles chart: #2
Digital track chart: #16

By far the most successful artist to emerge from the Australian
Idol series is Shannon Noll, who was the runner-up against
Guy Sebastian in the first series back in 2003. He has
enjoyed two chart-topping albums - "That's What I'm Talking
About" which was a 5 times platinum seller, and "Lift" which
notched up 3 times platinum sales. On the singles chart,
Shannon Noll has been a force to be reckoned with. Over
the last 3 years he has released a total of 10 singles,
with every one of them going top 10, including three
chart-toppers in the form of "What About Me", "Learn
To Fly" and "Shine". The last we heard from Shannon was
on his duet with Natalie Bassingthwaighte, "Don't Give Up",
which went all the way to number 2 just before last Christmas.
Shannon Noll releases his third studio album, "Turn It Up",
this weekend, and its first single, "Loud", is this week's
highest new entry at number 3 this week.

4. SHUT UP AND DRIVE - Rihanna
CD singles chart: #5
Digital track chart: #5

Another artist that keeps going from strength to strength
is 19 year-old Rihanna. After a string of top 10 hits over
the last couple of years, she is now enjoying good success
with her third album, "Good Girl Gone Bad". That album
gave her the recent 6 week chart-topping hit "Umbrella",
and now this week the hits keep coming. Her latest single,
"Shut Up And Drive", which has been on saturation air-play
across the country for weeks, finally gets released as a
single, storming straight into the number 4 spot.

10. AYO TECHNOLOGY - 50 Cent featuring Justin Timberlake
CD singles chart: #3
Digital track chart: (not in top 40)

It's been over 18 months since rapper 50 Cent has featured
on the singles chart. His debut album, the double-platinum
selling "Get Rich Or Die Tryin'" was a gold mine of hit singles
throughout 2003 with the chart-topping "In Da Club" and top 5
hits "21 Questions" and "PIMP". His follow-up album,
"The Massacre", only delivered him one top 10 hit in the form
of "Candy Shop" in 2005, and his collaborations with The Game
also during 2005 didn't set the charts on fire like he'd
done in the past. Now in 2007, 50 Cent has releases his
third studio album, "Curtis", which is named after his
official first name. The 16 track album features a swag
of collaborations with artists including Akon, Eminem,
Mary J. Blige, Young Buck, Tony Yayo and Nicole Scherzinger
of the Pussycat Dolls. For the album's first single,
50 Cent has chosen to release his duet with the man that
everyone wants as a guest vocalist on their record - Justin
Timberlake. "Ayo Technology" marks 50 Cent's return to
the top 10 since early 2005, debuting at number 10.

16. TEENAGERS - My Chemical Romance
CD singles chart: #20
Digital track chart: #22

Five-piece American rock band, My Chemical Romance, are
still pulling hit singles off their platinum-selling
top 3 album "The Black Parade". The album's first single,
"Welcome To The Black Parade", peaked at number 14 and spent
a marathon 27 weeks in the top 50, followed up by the
top 20 hit "Famous Last Words" and "I Don't Love You" which
just missed out on the top 50. The group's latest single,
"Teenagers", debuts at number 16 this week.

17. 1973 - James Blunt
CD singles chart: #19
Digital track chart: #28

33 year-old British singer and song-writer, James Blunt,
enjoyed huge success during 2005 and 2005 with the top 3
hits "You're Beautiful" and "Goodbye My Lover", all of which
featured on his massive 8-times platinum selling "Black To
Bedlam" album which was the highest selling album in
Australia during 2006. James now returns with a new album,
"All The Lost Souls", and the album's first single, "1973",
debuts at perhaps a disappointing number 17 for such a
high profile artist. The song's title doesn't come from
his birth year (he was actually born in 1974), but it is
the year that one of the clubs in Ibiza that James frequents
opened its doors. The song's music video remains true to
its title, featuring James walking through some typical
1970s street scenes.

19. WAKE UP CALL - Maroon 5
CD singles chart: #22
Digital track chart: #25

Maroon 5's current album, "It Won't Be Soon Before Long",
peaked in the top 5 back in June and gave them a top 10
hit single with "Makes Me Wonder". Second hit off the
album is the track "Wake Up Call", which just slips into
the top 20 at number 19 this week.

24. SONG 4 MUTYA - Groove Armada
CD singles chart: #26
Digital track chart: (not in top 40)

The English female trio of the Sugababes have almost had as
many line-up changes as they've had hit singles. One of the
founding members, 22 year-old Mutua Buena, left the group in
December 2005 just as the Sugababes enjoyed their biggest
ever hit in Australia with the top 3 smash "Push The Button".
Mutya launched her solo career earlier this year with the
track "Real Girl", which peaked at number 2 in the UK and
just missed out on the top 50 here in Australia. For her
next single, she's teamed up with British electronic duo
of Groove Armada. The track "Song 4 Mutya" appears on
both her "Real Girl" album and Groove Armarda's "Soundboy Rock"
album. So "Song 4 Mutya" follows up her last hit "Real
Girl", or from Groove Armada's point of view, it's their
next release from "Soundboy Rock" after their last
hit, "Get Down", peaked at number 33 back in May.
And to add to the confusion, Mutya isn't even
credited as one of the official artists on the single,
she just gets her name in the title.

30. CITY OF DREAMS - Joel Turner
CD singles chart: #15
Digital track chart: (not in top 40)

This week's final new entry comes from 20 year old Joel Turner
who auditioned for the 2003 Australian Idol series, but was
deemed unsuitable. His beatboxing skills caught the attention
of one of the Idol judges who ended up managing Joel.
Joel's debut self-titled album hit record shops in late 2004
and it spawned a string of big hit singles including
"These Kids" which went to number one in December 2004
and the top 20 hits "Knock You Out" and "Funk U Up".
Joel's second album, "Out Of The Box", is due to go on
sale next month and already gave him a top 40 single
back in March with "All Night Long". The album's
second single, "City Of Dreams", goes further this
week, making the top 30.
