I wanted to reach them to see if they would do mail orders. I was in
their Toronto store (Yonge Street by Eaton Center) a couple of weeks
ago and saw some titles I was interested in but neglected to buy. I
now want to see if they'd mail order to the U.S.
Of course if there's some friendly netter who lives in Toronto who
wouldn't mind doing me a favor...:-)

Their next dor neighbour and competitor A&A's also have an unlisted phone
number. In fact, so did the big Music World, before it folded. They always
have. In fact, if you notice there's a phone right at the front of Sam's for
staff -- the telephone number is not on the dial! Sounds like a funny
Toronto tradition. They probably got tired of too many teenagers calling
up to see if the latest Bay City Rollers albums is in.
The new HMV just down the street probably has a number you can call.
They do seem anxious for business.

1)Don't mention standards (e.g. Elton John's "Lucy in the Sky...", Joe Cocker's
"With A Little Help...", etc.
2)Don't throw in parodies, intentional or otherwise (Tiffany's "I saw him
standing there", William Shatner's "Lucy in the Sky,")
3)Alternate rock is especially welcome if not too noisy.
I've got a couple of good covers in mind already:
I Wanna Be Your Man--Rolling Stones
Dear Prudence--Siouxsie & the Banshees
Tomorrow Never Knows--Phil Collins AND Brian Eno(or is it Ferry?) AND Danielle
Dax
Live and Let Die--Guns n' Roses
I'm Down-Aerosmith
This is just a start. Oh yeah, good solo Beatle covers are also welcome. Anx-
iously awaiting reply.
^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^
Oh man. I can see it coming now. _Someone's_ going to have a hissy fit
over the Tiffany slur. Get your ringside seasts NOW!! :)
How 'bout Camper Van Beethoven's version of Ringo's "Photograph"?
The Alarm 's cever of John & Yoko's "Happy Xmas (War is Over)"
Aerosmith's "Come Together"

This list of Beatle covers is divided into several parts. Part I
lists those songs that were recorded by The Beatles themselves. Part
II lists tribute albums- that is, albums consisting mostly or entirely
of Beatle songs. Part III contains songs written by Lennon/McCartney
during the Beatle years that were given to other artists; covers of
songs from the solo (post-Beatle) era; and songs written or co-written
by Lennon/McCartney/Harrison/Starr for other artists in the
post-Beatle era. Part IV lists those songs that well-known artists
have performed live, but never properly recorded. Finally, part V
lists other oddities that don't fit the previous categories, such as
parody covers.
I don't claim that this list is anywhere near complete- I am still tracking
down other sources for this information. Even the information here is
somewhat incomplete. If you have any additions/corrections to make to the
list, please E-MAIL (not post) them to me at gal...@udel.edu.
++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
PART I
------
The following is a list of cover songs that The Beatles themselves recorded
and released. Those songs that were re-recorded by John/Paul/George/Ringo
for their own solo albums have been omitted here (such as the covers by Paul
on _Give My Regards To Broadstreet_) and will be incorporated in a later
version.
For each song, I've arranged each entry chronologically, when such information
is known to me. When the date is not known, I've listed the artist and source
(where the source is known to me).
Songs that are omitted here may have appeared on compilations/tribute albums
(such as Aerosmith's "Come Together"). Those songs may be found in part II.

PART V

And finally, other odds and ends that don't seem to fit anywhere else...
The Rutles- Funny, sometimes brilliant Beatle parody by the pre-Fab Four. Now
out on CD. A Rutles tribute disc is reportedly on its way....
U2- on _Rattle And Hum_ is a song called "God Part II", a response/update of
John's "God".
>From Frank Zappa....
Texas Motel (Norwegian Wood)
Texas Motel 2 (Strawberry Fields Forever)
La Hooker (Lucy In The Sky With Diamonds)
...what exactly are these?
Nilsson- on _Pandemonium Shadow Show_, the song "You Can't Do That" is
interpersed with several Beatle songs.
Stars On 45- Hit single of medley of several Beatle songs by singers that sound
"just like the Beatles!", with a standard early-80's disco back-
beat. Hit #1 in the US. Later that year, the "Beatle Movie
Medley" was also a hit (this time featuring the actual Beatle
records).
National Lampoon- on _Radio Dinner_, the track called "Magical Misery Tour"
parodies John's early solo work
Swinging Erudites- on _Unchained Parodies_, bit parodies of Macca material:
"The Paul McCartney Massacre" containing...
a) "Silly Paul McCartney" ("Silly Love Songs");
b) "Stupid People Living In The Past" ("Sgt. Pepper");
c) "Yesterday" (ballad version)
(punk version)
(Robert Plant version)
(B-52's version)
d) "Losers In The Studio And Dying" ("Lucy In The Sky")
And finally, this little ditty by Barclay James Harvest
"Titles" (from the album _Time Honoured Ghosts_, 1976)
------------------------------------------------------
lyrics:
the long and winding road that leads to your door
here comes the sun its alright people shout for more
but where you trying to decieve, telling me
all you need is love, to succeed
lady madonna let it be
something in the way you move me, yesterday
all you need is love, so they say
across the universe one afternoon all night
i got a feeling for you blue and i feel fine
i tried so hard to make believe, that i see
all you need is love, to succeed
lady madonna let it be
something in the way you move me, yesterday
all you need is love .... so they say
lady madonna let it be (let it be let it be)
something in the way you move me (words are pouring out my
freind)
lady madonna let it be (i read the news today oh boy)
something in the way you move me (love love love)
[etc to fade]

Actually, "Live and Let Die" is NOT a Beatles tune, but is rather a Paul
McCartney and the Wings tune.
