7. This week's top 50:
Elton John spends a second week at number one with his tribute to Lady
Diana, "Candle In The Wind 1997". Already acreditted with sales of 11
times platinum in Australia, this is definitely going to be the biggest
selling single of all time with accumulated world-wide sales of around
30 million copies at this moment. It is currently number one in Australia,
New Zealand, the United Kingdom, the U.S., Canada, and scores of other
countries especially in Europe. This is Elton's first top 10 hit in
Australia since "Can You Feel The Love Tonight", from the Lion King
soundtrack, peaked at number 9 for him back in September 1994.
It's a welcome return for John Farnham back into the charts this week.
Crowned "King of Pop" and given the past title of "Australian Of The
Year", John Farnham has been a truly Australian icon of musical success
not only in terms of record sales, but also in some of his stunning
live performances as a musician and entertainer. "Everytime You Cry"
is the Australian collaboration of the year as John Farnham and Human
Nature get together on this recording. Well, almost together - John
and Human Nature weren't even in the same studio, let alone the same
country, when they recorded this song. Due to the wonders of modern
music production, John Farnham was able to record his part of the
song in Melbourne while Human Nature recorded their portion in England
while they were on tour with Michael Jackson. They got together later
to film the music video which is set in the 60's and simulates a TV
pop show. In the light-hearted music video you'll recognize Philip Brady
and Bruce Mansfield who are long running veterans of Australian TV and
radio. The single debuts at number 6 this week and may even topple the
impressive peak of John's number 3 hit from March last year, "Have A
Little Faith (In Us)". This week, John also makes an assault on the
Australian Albums chart. "Anthology 1", which features his hits from
1986 to 1997, including his current single, debuts at number 2. Sadly
missing from this collection of his charting singles is "Beyond The Call"
(Age Of Reason album), "In Days To Come" (Chain Reaction album), and one
of his other collaborations, the 1989 Drug Offensive promotional single he
recorded with Dani'elle titled "Communication". John also managed to earn
the number 16 album of the week with "Anthology 2" - a live album
containing his hits from 1967 to 1985. And if you thought that wasn't
enough, wait for his third album release, "Anthology 3". It's out next
month and features B-sides and rare tracks.
For the first time in well over 5 years, both the Minogue sisters have
top 50 singles in Australia at the same time. Dannii's "All I Wanna Do"
slides back to number 18 this week while her older sister, 29 year-old
Kylie, enjoys the second highest debut on the Australian singles chart
this week. "Some Kind Of Bliss" crashes in at number 27, spurred on
by good radio support and the upcoming visit of Kylie back home to
Australia at the end of this month. Kylie's music style has certainly
changed from the early, sweet bubble-gum pop days of the late 80's, into
a sound that now has people calling her "Indie-Kylie". "Some Kind Of
Bliss" builds upon her changed musical direction, which was certainly
highlighted by her 1994 Australian chart topper, "Confide In Me".
Ironically, that single was at number one exactly three years ago to this
very day, and her duet with Nick Cave, "Where The Wild Roses Grow", was at
number 2 exactly two years ago. Whether she can emulate the success
of those singles remains to be seen, but regardless of that, after more
that 10 years of being on charts around the world, she is winning over
new fans all the time with her new styles and musical directions.
What a week for re-entries! 7 new-comers to the top 50 this week, with 4
of them already previous top 50 hits. The stagnant nature of the charts
is highlighted by only one big climber within the top 50 - Aqua's "Barbie
Girl" which bullets from number 9 to 3 this week. Possibly a contender
for the number 1 spot after Elton John relinquishes that position, however
given the novelty value of "Barbie Girl" and its large initial sales, it
will probably only have a relatively short chart history.
The final new entry into the charts at number 49 this week comes from
Matchbox 20 with their hit "Push". Based in the U.S., Matchbox 20
consists of Rob Thomas (lead vocals and songwriter), Kyle Cook (lead
guitar), Adam Gaynor (rhythm guitar), Brian Yale (bass) and Paul Doucette
(drums). Their debut album, "Yourself Or Someone Like You" was produced
by Matt Serletic who has co-produced a number of Collective Soul albums.

10. This week's feature song lyrics
-------------------------------------------------
EVERYTIME YOU CRY - John Farnham and Human Nature
-------------------------------------------------
Never before have I seen you look so blue
I can't find a cure and nothing comforts you
But the light at the end of the tunnel
Doesn't shine at the end of the day
CHORUS:
Every time you cry
Save up all your tears
I will be your rainbow when it disappears
Wash away the pain
'Til you smile again
I will be the laughter in your eyes
Every time you cry
Time has a way of wounding what has healed
What can I say? I know just how you feel
Your soul is dark and troubled
Like a river running wild
(REPEAT CHORUS)
Well, you know that's what I'm here for
I will give you what you need, more
There will be no hesitation
I will reap no reward
(REPEAT CHORUS AD LIB TILL END)
---------------------------
SICK WITH LOVE - Robyn Loau
---------------------------
Everytime I'm making love with you
Kind of makes me feel like I hate you
Everytime I'm lying in your arms
I try to ignore you but I can't
I'm not alone
But I am lonely
I'm insatiable and I can't get enough
But.. you know I'm only
Sick with love
Sick with love
Sick with love
Sick with love
Everytime I'm making love with you
Kind of makes me feel like I hate you
I'm not alone
But I am lonely
It's a deep rooted fear that I can't rise above
But.. you know I'm only
CHORUS:
Sick with love (love, hate, generate)
Sick with love (love, hate, radiate)
Sick with love (love, hate, generate)
Sick with love (love, hate, radiate)
(REPEAT CHORUS SEVERAL TIMES)
Everytime I'm making love with you
Kind of makes me feel like I hate you
I'm not alone
But I am lonely
I'm insatiable and I can't get enough
But.. you know I'm only
(REPEAT CHORUS SEVERAL TIMES)
Sick with love
Sick with love
