Hi everybody.

I got Madonna's album _Something to Remember_ recently, and I'm a bit
confused about _Love Don't Live Here Anymore_: This *title* (not so much
the actual song) sounds familiar to me, but I'm not sure why.

Does anyone know about other songs with the same title (or other versions
of that song)?

Back in 1979 disco era, there was a song of the same name by Rose Royce (Car
Wash /I Wanna get next to you ). It had those disco boom boom boom sound
effects and the lyric was something like "There's a vacancy love don't live here
anymore".

I show the single on the Whitfield (8712) label but it may show up on some disco
collections.

That song was done by Rose Royce in the '70's. Great tune!

Is this the song that goes "you abandoned me, love don't live here anymore"?

If it is.. that was on one of Madonna's very first album back in the mid
80's... also, it was done by a British actor called Jimmy Nail

I believe the most recent recording of this is a duet with Faith Evans and
Mary J. Blige. It's very good.

In general I think this is a great song. In fact the only rendition I've heard
of it I haven't liked is Madonna's--ironic considering she is by far one of my
favorite artists. She recorded it for _Like a Virgin_, where it didn't fit
and before she had developed the technical and, more important IMHO, emotional
versatility to handle it. It's unfortunate that it was only remixed for
_Something to Remember_; I'd like to hear her resing it. I'm sure she'd do a
*much* better job now.
