I saw a copy at the Newburry Comics shop in the Harvard "Garage"
(Cambridge, MA) within the last two week. They wanted $20 for it.
Kind of strange they had it, since
this is a legit, new-only store (part of a local chain),
and the CD is clearly some sort of
bootleg. Incidentally, the bootleg claims to be part of a limited
edition of 1000 copies. A) I woudn't believe it; I've seen enough of
these around to make that seem doubtful; B) Who cares? Bootlegs are
rarely deemed valued collectables by serious collectors.

I saw this LP for sale at a Record Show last Sunday held at the Princeton
NJ Marriot. This is the cheapest I have seen it for sale to date, $75.00.
Other times have always been $100.00 or more.
Good Luck!

Please go back to the Newburry Comics shop and if the "Valley Girl" soundtrack
on CD is still there, please buy it. I'll give you $30 dollars for it.

There is no such thing... There were all kinds of legal problems, and the album
either was never put out, or if it was, it was recalled, which means maybe there
are 20 or 30 of thme out there, and they'd be worth a mint. Some friends of mine
and I compiled one once from the albums by the various artists. Very tough to
find some of the songs. Great soundtrack, though.

This again???!??
OK. Here's an article I posted about half a year ago. The definitive
answer to all these questions.
dap
-------
One of the more frequent questions in these groups is "where can I
get the soundtrack to the movie _Valley Girl_?" Which is typically
followed up by several responses of the sort "I've never owned one,
but I saw one behind the counter at Sotheby's for $12 million, so I
know one exists."
Well, the newest issue of Goldmine has an article about this soundtrack.
According to Epic Records, the album was slated for release in the US,
but an actual release never occured because of a contractual snag. They
deny unequivicably deny that any copies were ever pressed or issued.
Despite unsubstantiated claims to the contrary by some dealer in
Colorado, this is probably to be considered the definitive word on this
matter.
HOWEVER, some copies of an alternative release were eventually issued.
A 10-song album came out in the UK on Avatar Records, while a 6-song
mini-album later came out on Roadshow Records (which I recall seeing
in the store, though my mind has obviously played tricks on me since
I thought it was on Geffen).
None of the releases (the unissued Epic release, the Avatar release or
the Roadshow release) contains anything remotely approaching rare.
The article also provides a list of ALL the songs used in the movie, along
with sources for the songs. Those with access to a large record collection,
or willing to search the used record bins, should be able to assemble
the entire collection for substantially less than collectors have been
asking for the Avatar/Roadshow releases.
The tracks, along with an album source:
Bananaram & Fun Boy Three: "He Was Really Saying Something"
Deep Sea Skiving (Chrysalis)
The Clash: "Rock the Casbah"
Combat Rock (Epic)
Josie Cotton: "He Could Be the One" and "Johnny are you Queer?"
Convertible Music (Elektra)
Josie Cotton: "School is In"
From the Hip (Elektra)
Culture Club: "Do You Really Want to Hurt Me?"
Kissing to Be Clever (Virgin/Epic)
Felony: "The Fanatic"
The Fanatic (Rock&Roll/Scotti Brothers)
The Flirts: "(Don't Put Another Dime)"
10 Cents a Dance (O Records)
Eddy Grant: "Electric Avenue"
Killer on the Rampage (Portrait)
Bonnie Hayes and the Wild Combo: "Girls Like Me" and "Shelly's Boyfriend"
Good Clean Fun (Slash)
The Jam: "Town Called Malice"
The Gift (Polydor)
Men at Work: "Who Can it Be Now?"
Business as Usual (Columbia)
Modern English: "I Melt With You"
After the Snow (Sire)
Gary Myrick: "Time to Win"
Language (Epic)
Gary Myrick and the Figures: "She Talks in Stereo"
Gary Myrick and the Figures (Epic)
Payolas: "Eyes of a Stranger"
No Stranger to Danger (A&M)
The Plimsouls: "A Million Miles Away", "Oldest Story in the World",
"Everywhere at Once"
Everywhere at Once (Geffen)
Psychadelic Furs: "Love My Way"
Forever Now (Columbia)
Sparks: "Angst in my Pants" and "Eaten by the Monster of Love"
Angst in my Pants (Atlantic)
Pat Travers: "I La La La Love You"
Black Pearl (Polygram)
All the above tracks are easily available on CD, with the exceptions
of the Josie Cotton tracks, the Bonnie Hayes tracks,
the Gary Myrick tracks, the Payolas track (easily available in Canada,
though), and possibly the Sparks "Eaten by the Monster".

The album WAS released- I had a copy of it (it was later stolen during a
party). When I went to buy a replacement, I was told that the album was
recalled (possibly due to poor sales related to the way the movie flopped
at the box office). However, when HBO began showing the film, it met a
much greater response that at the box office. Thus, everybody now WANTED
the album, but it was too late...
I am interested in Companies/Manufacturers/Dealers of Compact
Discs and Audio cassettes from various cultures.
I am particularly interested in music from indian, southeast asian,
and chinese peoples. My interests include both oldies, new age and
classical music from these regions.
I was lead to believe that many of these companies exist in
HongKong, Taiwan, Singapore and U.K.
If there is anyone out there who can give me
names :
addresses :
Telephone numbers:
contact persons :
US agent/Dealer :
and any other relevant information about these companies, please
send me email at the following address
If there is sufficient interest, I will compile and repost the
responses I recieve.
Thank You.

WHAT HAPPENED TO HUBERT KAH? He did something on the "Gotcha"
soundtrack, any others?
This post had nothing to do with the _Valley Girl_ soundtrack. Please change the
subject if it no longer applies.
Thank you.
P.S. You're also a lot liklier to reach your intended audience if you use an
appropriate subject. I'll bet almost nobody who read that post has any idea where
to find Cd's and tapes of souhteast Asian music.
