Maybe this will get everyone off the bickering and religion jags
currently going on....

Has anyone compiled a list of slang commonly used by players that is
trumpet, cornet, flugel related? For example nicknames for horns,
styles of playing, types of players, etc. I have heard trombones
called slush-pumps....what about trumpets?

Along with that are there any rituals, unwritten rules of conduct,
gestures or gags that are common place amongst players? For example,
pool players tap their cue on the floor to signify a good
shot...trumpeters do anything similiar? Lifting one leg when hitting a
high note....

Thanks

Your trumpet is your horn or ax. When you make a clam, or a mistake, you are
to look at someone else in the section. If you have no choice but to own up to
it, there are various things you can do, including wringing out the bad notes
from your bell or turning it around and looking into the bell to see the source
of the erroneous vibrations.

The main rule is that no matter what happens, NEVER kill your ax. This is not
golf or tennis. Let those effete folks do whatever they want to with the tools
of their trade. They can afford it.

Take out your mouthpiece and hold it up real close and say, "Dang! Wrong
one!"
