Here is an honest evaluation of the horn:
It's in great playing shape. The old lacquer has been removed (mainly to
balance out the overall look of the horn). There has been some repairs
done on the horn through the years: Solder repair with attached brass
piece along edge of the second valve slide and adjacent third valve tube
(1") leading to tuning slide support area. There has also been a
solder/brass repair on the valve side of the bore under the 2nd valve
support on the portion of the horn before the bell (approx 1" wide along
side of valve area). The overall brass finish is dull with some blotches
throughout. There has been a recent modification of the horn, with a #25
Bach Reverse Leadpipe attached.
However, the original #7 mouthpipe is still intact and could easily be
returned to it's original place. A first valve slide has also been added
to the original horn.
The horn plays and responds perfectly. The old Bach's heavy metal seems
to give the horn a darker more powerful tone. The valve action is
excellent. The horn has that "solid" feel that you can only get with the
old style horns.
If you are looking for a "shiny" pretty trumpet, buy a new Bach.
But if you more concerned the sound and feel of a horn and want to own
one of the classic old trumpets, give me a call.
You may be wondering why I am selling the horn..... for my style of
playing (traditional jazz) I find my Bach 180LR -lightweight body/std
heavy bell- to be a better fit. In general, I find the standard Bach
model 37's to be a bit stuffy with a little too much resistance. However,
if you like your standard Bach
37------ you'll really enjoy playing this classic trumpet.
I've contacted Bach and was able to obtain a complete description
