I am a french horn player who also plays trumpet for church (pretty
well, too). I currently play a borrowed, beat-up, leaky Olds Studio. I
want to get a good-quality trumpet of my own, but can't afford a
brand-new one. An acquaintance has a Couesnon, which I haven't yet seen
or played. Don't know what model. While I could go on for awhile about
f. horn makes and models, I don't have a good enough understanding of
the same for trumpets (other than I know I've liked every Bach Strad.
I've tried).

Is/was Couesnon a quality maker? What models should I look for, or
avoid? Other suggestions for good, cost-effective horn?

Thanks!

Avoid the Couesnon combination Bb/C like the plague.

>get bach c trumpets they rock

Wait a minute, I thought they sucked.

I think maybe you need to take your medication.

Couesnons were used by Roger Voisin,
former principal of the Boston Symphony
& his dad, Rene, too. However, I had a
Cousenon C, beautiful sound, horribe
intonation! The top of the line is the
'Monopole', French for 'prototype' I
believe.

Personally, I think I would probably pass over a Couesnon trumpet. Their
flugel horns are desirable, but their trumpets are not. I think you would
be better served by looking for a good used Bach, Yamaha, Kanstul, Schilke,
Benge, etc... This would be a better way to go .

FWIW, I do have some new and used horns that may fit your price range. Feel
free to drop me a line.

Everything Bill says is true (I bought that C from him). The valves are
so horribly aligned that I can't help but wonder how the intonation
would be if I got them close to right. Anyone ever have any experience
with a Couesnon with properly aligned valves, or is that an
impossibility?

I believe Mr. Voison played a Thibouville.
Isn't his son in this newsgroup ?
