Should I get a Laskey 60SB cornet muthpiece, a Denis Wick RW4B cornet
mouthpiece, or a Curry cornet mouthpiece of the same size?
Your help would be greatly appreciated

Unfortunately, you probably need to try the different pieces with your
horn. There's no blanket recommendation. You might try the forum at
trumpetherald.com to see if you can stir up some opinions there.

Dear VZ,

Keith's advice is good. Do you live near a mouthpiece maven? Like
Portland OR has Monette and nearby is Marcinkiewicz. You can go to
either place and try out a whole bunch of 'pieces. Perhaps there is a
maker of 'pieces near you.

What will probably happen is as you get into playing your needs in a
'piece will change and you'll have to go back for more.

good luck

It depends on the sound you want to make. If you want a big warm traditional
British brass band sound the only one of those you mention that gives it is
the Wick. Look also at Sparx cornet mouthpieces. They work very well indeed
and feel similar to a Bach trumpet rim.

Unfortunately, asking an internet group to help pick out a mouthpiece
for you is much like asking us to recommend shoes. What fits us will
likely not work for you.

Why not order all of them at the same time. Keep the one you like and return
the others

The Curry is a REAL cornet cup as well.

Most cornet mouthpieces are really trumpet cups on a cornet shank.
(Bach and Schilke are like this.)

Curry are cornet cups, bigger throat, bigger backbore... Just like they
were meant to be.

That being said you didn't even tell us what size trumpet mouthpiece
you like to play.

So with the info we have available we could throw a dart at a
mouthpiece chart and get as close as we can guess right now.

There are places that will let you order several and return the ones
that you don't like.

That was a GREAT idea.

I just wanted to point out that the Curry is a real cornet piece.

I have a Curry 1DC mouthpiece here, and while it isn't just a trumpet
mouthpiece on a small shank (like the Bachs) it doesn't give anything like a
traditional cornet sound (although the British idea of cornet tone is far
less brash than the USA version). It would make a nice orchestral
mouthpiece. At the moment it is a nice paper weight!

Mark also makes my mpcs. However mine are on a Bach type looking, or style
blank, and they are deeper then Marks DC models, and also have a larger bore
or throat, #18 and they do get a traditional, turn of the 20th Century -
British Sound.

Try a Flip Oakes WT1
