Hi all,

Can anyone give me an indication of how much a Jupiter slide trumpet
(otherwise known as soprano trom or mini-trom) would be worth in good
condition?

Cheers,
Dave

I don't know if you will want to hear this or not but the local music store had
a purple one on their shelf for three years and sold it to me for $50 just to
get rid of it...

Are those things really trombones even? I was under the impression
that soprano trombones are actually in "trombone proportion", with
respect to slide positions and bell/slide lengths. I've never seen
one personally (but would happily pay $50 for one!), though do own
a sop. tbone, and thought that the bell section stuck out too much
for it to be a bone.

It is certainly in "trombone proportion", it looks just like a trombone,
only smaller! It is in Bb, same as a Bb trumpet. To play uses the same
positions as a trombone..... in fact I've found one for auction on ebay,
(it's not mine, I'm trying to sell mine here in NZ, didn't think it was
worth advertising and posting overseas), if you want to see some pictures it
has some there, search for "soprano trombone" (damn, I wish mine was that
shiny!!!), it's currently on $306! If anyone feels like spending anything
like that on mine (knowing that it is older and not so shiny, still fine
condition though), maybe I will look into postage....

Cheers,
Dave S.

The Jupiter slide trumpet is about $200 retail (new) in Taiwan.

Personally, I don't think any serious player would bother with it
though. Been to a Jupiter trade show, the slides on these instruments is
not that great.....just a fun instrument, not something you can really
play seriously on. (I friend of mine have one for her 3 yr old daughter
to fool around.)

A friend of mine told me he saw a guy perform on a "Picolo" slide trumpet at
a trombone convention. Apparently it's pitched an octave higher than a
standard Bb slide trumpet. That sure would be a sight to behold, but it's
not practical.
