I noticed that the Brass Bow and Dillon music sell "Max"
Trumpets. Anyone have input on how good these horns are and where their
made?

I can answer the question of where they are made. Kanstul manufactures
the Max, the Wild Thing, French and other brands in addition to their
own brand, in California.

The woman I take lessons with, Jeanne Pocius, has played one for years. They
are excellent horns and with the adjustable gap receivers and sound posts they
are extremely versatile. Design by Charles Colin on NYC. Check that website
for details.

I'm not sure that Kanstul is making them anymore. I think they are being made
by Lawler now. Still with Kanstul valve sections for now.

Lawler has no connection with Max that I know of. They are still made
by Kanstul, per the Max web page.

I have been playing one for several years now. They are excellent horns!!!!
There is a new line out now, the Max II and the Max Plus. The Max 2 is more of
a jazz soloist trumpet, and the Max Plus is more of a lead horn with adjustable
gap receiver. Both are .460 bore.

the Max was designed by Allan Colin and originally manufactured by Kanstul. As
of January all Max Trumpets are being made by Roy Lawler. You can check out the
Max at:

Thanks for the correction, Rich and I am glad to hear that Lawler is
going to be involved.
