>Can anybody shed any light on the design of the trumpet Wynton Marsalis
>plays?
Steve:
Wynton Marsalis plays a Monette trumpet built by David G. Monette in
Portland, Oregon, USA. He has a Web page at
http://www.teleport.com/~monette/ Terence Blanchard plays a Monette
along with several other jazz and some legit players. I've never
played one but I hear that they are very heavy horns with unusual
response characteristics. Some folks seem to find that the horn is
too difficult to play. Another good page is Trumpet Players'
International Network (TPIN) at http://trumpet.dana.edu/~trumpet/
When I was last in the UK I looked in on a music shop in London, the
name of which has escaped. The horns (Besson, Bach, Conn) were
outrageously priced - about 30% higher than in the US. For example, a
Bach Strad. in the Washjngton DC area sells for $1040.00 at Chuck
Levin's Washington Music Co. The same horn in London was over 1,000
pounds Sterling or about $1600.00. Is this true in other parts of the
UK or was this particular store an abberation?

Nope this is how it goes in the UK, basically forget currency exchange
rates and just swap the dollar sign for the pound sign.
