And since you might know, what are some other great classical trumpet
pieces? This probably duplicates older threads. Sorry.

I wouldn't call it "best", but it would be hard to find much better.

The best I've heard was a performance by Timofey Dockshitzer, with the
Berlin Symphony. Unfortunately I don't have much to compare it with,
but the 2 or 3 others I've heard don't even come close. His technique
and attack are consistently excellent, and the cadenzas are very well
concieved and executed.

If anyone knows of a CD re-release of the Stevens recording, please let
me know!
My favorite version on a keyed trumpet is a CD by Mark Bennett with the
English Concert, Trevor Pinnock conducting, from 1990. It might still be
available.

I've only got about half of these, but my favorite that I do have is the
Gerard Swartz Haydn/Hummel recording from the late '70s or early '80s. I
particularly like his Hummel.

Want to hear a smokin' cadenza? I would suggest that everyone listen to
the Mendez recording of the Haydn.
I like Mendez' and Dokschitzer's the best. BTW I also love listening
to Voisin and Harry James playing anything.
I just heard Sandoval's classical album the other day. He needs to
stick to salsa and Clarke technical studies.
For a little fun one name: Al Hirt
