These companies could not only sell a cd of the great pros but they
could sell us a trax with the background and sheet music so we can
enjoy playing the same songs and music that the great players do.
Minus One is great but I am mainly talking about the cds that the pros
play. You can find the isolated songs sometimes with background but
never a total cd with background and sheet music. It would be a great
training tool. David O'Neill does it but do you guys know any of the
others that do.

Phil Driscoll did or does.
Maynard had an album out called Music Minus Maynard.
Aebersold has 50+ volumes of great jazz tunes.

The SmartMusic Accompaniment program from Coda/Finale does a great job
of creating accompaniments that you can play along with, and that you
can adjust as you learn the work.

Maynard has three out: Body & Soul, High Voltage, and Big Bop Nouveau. I
have all three of these and enjoy them very much.

I agree more musicians should do this!

I wasn't aware of these. Can you suggest where they can be found?

Hey! That means Maynard overdubbed himself. Not that I ever thought
otherwise or it matters, but that fact might piss somebody off, so I brought
it up.

Chip:
I have a book with background cd that is pretty good called
"Broadway", very good background, 11 songs, Bewitched, My Funny
Valentine, I've Grown Accustomed to your Face, etc. Where can I get
the ones you are talking about, can you give me web address.

Dave:
I have several good ones, one is "Broadway by Special Arrangement",
Warner Bros., be sure it costs around $14.95, get trumpet book with
accompaniment cd.; another one is "The Music of Henry Mancini" Plus
One, 20 songs with Orchestral Accompaniment by Warner Bros. but the
best is called "Be a Top Player, Mostly Ballads, by Warner Bros., get
trumpet book with background cds. I have had to buy 10 of these
things to get 2 good ones and these are some of the best but I am now
interested in the ones that Chip mentioned above.

I don't know if they are all still in print, as I have had mine for many
years, but all three were published by Hal Leonard. I've seen the set for
Big Bop Nouveau on eBay quite a bit.

It's funny that this came up, because I do some work on the side in a studio
and I was fooling around with some of these charts just last week.

I just purchased the Music Minus Maynard, $22 and I called and
purchased the Phil Driscoll songs but you have to pay $15 per song
which can get really expensive, they are supposed to send me sheet
music with it plus piano part and then background cd.
