Hi,

I'd like to know which horns the great jazz trumpet players (e.g.
Clifford, Miles, Eldrige, ...) have been playing. I've found a web page
with such a list for sax players
(www.Jazz-Sax.com/jazzcart/plsql/player_database.html). Is there a
similar resource for trumpet players on the net? Probably you can post
the player/horn combinations you know here!?

thanks,
Robert

Here are a couple corrections:

> Bill Chase--Tpt: Schilke B6L; Mpce: Schilke 6a4A; Jet-Tone

Bill also played a Martin earlier in his career, and a Yamaha flugelhorn (731)

>
> Dizzy Gillespie--Tpts: Martin Committee; King Silver Flair; Schilke (gift of
> Jon Faddis)

Had an Al Cass mouthpiece that he played for years.

>
> Bud Herseth--Tpt: Bach C w/ 6 leadpipe owned by Chicago Symphony, Schilke B3
> Bb, Monette (back to Bach); Mpce Bach 1

Also plays a Schilke E3L Eb, a Schilke picc, and a Monke rotary in C.

>
> David Hickman--Tpt: Yamaha

Last time I saw, he was playing a Blackburn. Has this changed recently?

>
> Wynton Marsalis--Tpt: Bach 37; Monette(s); Mpce: Bach 1-1/4C; Monettes

Monette B-2 for Bb trumpet /B-5 for picc.

>
> Bobby Shew--Tpt: Yamaha 6310Z; Mpce; Marcinewicz Bobby Shew

Now plays the Yamaha Shew model mpc.

>
> Rolf Smedvig--Tpts: Bach 37w/ thumb trigger, Mpce: Bach 3C
>
> Phil Smith--Tpts: Bach 37; Bach C LB w/ 25H; Mpce: Bach 1B w/ big backbore,
> Bach 3C for commercial work
>

Bach 1B is not quite right, but close. Phil makes a big deal about saying
it is a 5B underpart with a 22 throat and a Symphonic backbore (24),
threaded to a Bach 1C rim. He told me that he personally did not care for
the bach 1B as it is currently made. I

Others:

Mark Gould plays Yamaha, as does Jim Thompson, and most of the LA Phil section.

Charles Schlueter plays a Monette Raja trumpet with a C1-1 mouthpiece, or
sometimes a C1-1D. He also plays a Monette piccolo and a Monette flumpet.

Cal Price plays a Monette STC-1 Bb and C trumpets (the new STC-1 design),
and a B/C1-5 mouthpiece.

Dominic Spera plays a Yamaha, although the models have changed. When he
finds a horn he likes, he plays it.

There was an article in the Windplayer Magazine that listed what a lot of
the top call studio players in LA play as well. It was from a couple
yearsa ago, but is very informative.

I am sure there is more out there!
