I recently saw a picture of an unknown model trumpet by Parrot, serial
14545.
It looks like it was designed to look like a Bach Strad. Anyone have any
info
on this line.

I encountered several Parrot trumpets about 4 yr ago.
These were knoc-offs of the Conn Connstelation, with
poor workanship, so bad the valves were not wholly
reliable on any of the few I saw. Sound was pretty good,
like the Constellaton, as I remember.

Price was $150 each.

The Chinese artisans may have learned their craft since
tthen, of course but my standard advice (to non-players)
untill I see signs that they have, is to avoid all oriental
trumpets except Jupiter & Yamaha.

thanks for the info. Since I cant find any other feedback anywhere I'll
stay
away from them.

Is Jupiter considered a quality instrument? I was advised by the local
band director a couple of years ago that they were ok but they literally
fell apart! Where are they made?

A first, they were considered junk. However,
there have been improvements, & now they
are now recognised as good value for the money.

Probably none of them, without a lot of special
work, would compare to a good Bach Strad, or
any of the other custom type horns (Schilke, W-T,
Callichio, etc) but they would get the job done
for a lot less $.

My previous post on this subject was a response
to someone who asked if Jupiter trumpets were
comparabe to standard professional horns like Bachs.

Jupiters are no longer junk, but I have no recent info on
Parrots. The last I played, 3 yr or so ago, were junk.

Can you imagine showing up on a gig, and someone says to you, "Hey man,
what's that horn your playing on?" and you would reply, "Uh, um, it's a
Parrot, actually..."

Mmmmmmm.

Thats exactly what I was thinking, allthough the name should not have any
bearing on selecting a horn except in reputation. But what kind of company
would create solid horns and call themselves Parrot. Anyway, I'm the one who
posed the question in the first place and have since scored what I hope to be
a fine Yamaha 6345s.

That's not as bad as the oldest toilet manufacturer company in the U.K. - in fact they're toilet makers to the royal house. Name?  Crapper. Honest.

It is not too surprising, since that was the gentleman's name. There's
even a web site:

Who says you can't learn anything useful from a newsgroup?
