Martin Quality
Since the height of the bebop era, jazz musicians like Miles Davis,
Dizzy Gillespie, Red Rodaney and Chet Baker, to name a few all favored
the Martin Committee trumpet because it was the only instrument that
would meet their style of music's strict demand for quick response and
clear, beautiful tone. Today, the Committee trumpet is still unmatched
for for superior construction and its distinctive sound that lets all
players put their own fingerprint on the music. The Martin Band
Instrument Company was established in Chicago prior to 1891 and would
be the oldest manufacturer of band instruments in America had
production not been interrupted by the great Chicago Fire. In 1906 the
company was reestablished in Elkhart, Indiana. It was later sold to the
Wurlitzer Company and then purchased by Leblanc and moved to Kenosha,
Wisconsin, where it has steadily been producing some of the world's
finest trumpets for more than 20 years.

Legendary Sound

The Committee possesses the legendary focus and centering that make the
Committee famous. The distinctive response of this model produces a
tone that can be tinged with brilliance or mellowed to a rich darkness.

You are correct. This is a relatively new model ..not of the Chet Baker
vintage (as per the more recent SN in the listing). However, this
trumpet is in nice shape and the price is very good....

This is the current pricing for a new one at MusiciansFriend.com

List: $2,445.00
Sale Price: $1,479.99

This LIGHTLY USED trumpet is selling for $995!!

This model is OK, but one manufactured under the UMI banner rather
than the now defunct Martin company. Below is a link to the Osmun site
where you can have the bell replaced with a vintage Martin bell that
they managed to 'rescue'. They offer the bell either with the fancy
engraving or a plain Jane Martin bell with no engraving.

I've often wondered why they don't produce an instrument of the original
specifications. in the mid 70's, Holton manufactured an exact replica, and
later a bigger, comittee2 horn. would like to see an exact martin comittee
replica.

I read somewhere that they're taking the measurements of Chris Botti's
vintage Committee and using that for a 'new line' of horns.

Maybe they're NASA fans and noticed that they'd done half in standard and
half in metric, and then the first horn crashed into mars and ...

Or maybe not. :)
