Hello everybody!

I first tell you about my situation: I have now 5 students who are
going to buy new horns for xmas. I think they'll take the Yamaha 5
series or the B&S. My dealer offers a Besson 1020 Cornet as an
addition to the five other horns (his prices for the trumpets are VERY
fair). So you pay for 5 trumpets and get a cornet for free.
I had no occasion to test the Besson so far. I know it's a student
model, but is it as good as the Yamahas? I'm sure it won't reach a
Bach (I played Arbans Carnaval on one for my mid-term audition). But
the "only" thing I want to play on it is stuff like the Arban
Variations.

Thank you,
Michael

******as good as?...hmmm...the best way to describe it to you is that compared
to the YAMS it is less resonant/ a little more stuffy / and not as well put
together.
To try and put a measurement on this, and this is only MY opinion the YAMS are
a 7/10 to play the arband with --the Besson 1020 a 5/10

I'm sure it won't reach a Bach (I played Arbans Carnaval on one for my mid-term
audition).

*****correct.

*****depends on how fussy you are anbout response / intonation.
Again YAMS= 7/10 --Besson 1020=5/10
but hey! ---IT'S FREE!!!

I hope you accept this info in the spirit in which it was intended - no one
seemed to have posted for you, so...

Hello Roddy!

Thank you for your post. I'll try the Besson next week. Well, it may
be for free, but when you can't play on it... I'll maybe try to make
another deal. The dealer sells used trumpets too. I'll see.
I've got your mail concerning lessons in good old Germany. Unforunatly
I'm living in Bavaria (south of Germany) and Kiel is about 700 km
away.

Bye,
Michael

I played on a 2330 Yamaha for 2 years because I couldnt cope with the
sovereign stuffiness.
It was a good instrument.
Quite large bore but the intonation was good.
Its about the best student grade one I have tried.

Gordon is right Michael --try and get a YAMAHA out of them instead....or a B&S
if this dealer is Geoff Gillard at Parkers.

The one thing I have noticed is that most of those recommending Yamaha have
played the 2330 model. I don't see many who have gone out and purchased or
have been "loaned" the 6XXX series. Any particular reason for this? Or am
I simply not "seeing" posts from the Yamaha pro series cornet players?
