I think that any of the earlier Tower of Power records would be a good
choice(Tower of Power, Bump City). I recommend Bump City by Tower of Power,
which isn't all trumpet solos, but you can't get any tighter than those guys
were.

Chaka Khan live in New York, with Jerry Hey on trumpet.

The Brecker Brothers album from the 70's with the tune "Some Skunk Funk" and
others.

I'll Second that. Essential fusion album. Can't beat the electric
trumpet.

Check out some of the old Seawind recordings that have Jerry Hey!!
Awesome! Try the CD called "Remember". Nobody better than Jerry Hey for
good writing and playing!

Just something about the Brecker Brothers. I really love them, but as a
trumpet player it's sometimes hard for me to listen to Randy (Brecker...
) . He plays to often with his whawha sound and the electric effects. It
really takes out the sound of the trumpet.

Now, it's my opinion only.

Hi.... I'm wondering if anyone knows of a FEMALE jazz trumpet artist that is
"making a name" for herself in the CD world of today? I hope to be in that
situation in a few years and would like some inspiration and role models.
Thanks!

I've got a couple of CDs by Rebecca Coupe Franks on the Justice label.
She's very good playing straight ahead style.
