Let me preface this.....

Not a fan of Sinead, but that is a nice string sound on that recording.

What is it?

Email privately and to the list. Thanks.

What's wrong with being a fan of her's?

Sounds like real strings to me. I'd be shocked to learn otherwise.

Maybe the fact that she hasn't made anything musically worthwhile
in years (and she also is quite a nutter) ;)

Anyway, the string sounds much like a Solina String Ensemble...
could also be a Farfisa organ...

Kind of a sophmoric view, eh? I wouldn't call myself a fan but she is very
talented and the music is very well done. I agree with a lot of her politics
also.

Maybe a new set of speakers is in your future? I'd be very surprised if they
were not a real string section playing those parts.

Her last single just came out less than 2 years ago, thought it was pretty
good, and I'm not a big fan of hers. The only people who thinks she's nuts are
Catholics.

Uhhh, have you heard the song or a Solina lately? They're two totally
different sounds. The strings on ''Nothing Compares to You' sound like
real strings or a sample.

I don't like her "music" and her "political views" are mostly hysterical
nonsense.

Well, if they are real strings, someone EQ'ed and phased the shit
out of 'em. It could be though that they are actual strings mingled
with synth strings, but all in all it sounds very Solina-like.

And my Genelecs are generally good speakers, thank you...

You are all wrong: these are Violins

When did they take violins out of the strings section? It's been a while since
I heard the song but I think some of the parts are out of the range of
violins... more like viola or viol, and maybe even some cello. The last time
I checked, these were all strings.

I actually tried to delete this message, seeing how pig-headed my
responses were ;) Hrm.. I shouldn't post on usenet with a
hangover ;)

'Nothing compares 2 u' is a beautiful song really and I think
I have not done Sinead O' Connor justice. Honestly, I
wish I had half her talent. I can't even sing!

As for the strings: I listened more carefully I get the idea they are
real, but treated with some phasing or chorus. I also think they are
enhanced with some synth strings too, like some Solina. Since
it sounds nice, it would be great if someone with more info
could shed some light on this.

Richard, no problem here, brother. You stated your views, I mine. This is
usenet afterall... 3 months (or weeks even) and we'll be arguing over something
else (grin). I'd like to have a nickel for every time I've hit the "send" and
wanted to take it back though...

As for Sinead's politics... hysteria? Maybe. The one thing I admire most of
all is that she states her view and sticks with it. Regardless of the outcome,
she says what she thinks. A couple times, a little apology (and compromise of
beliefs) would have reinstated her commercial marketablity. She chose to stick
to her beliefs. To me that is worth more a lot.

Her music, not my cup of tea but (to paraphrase you), it's a bunch better than I
have the inclination to produce. To see how bad I am...

most of which are ancient (and probably not your cup of tea ). I liked your
stuff.

Ed
