I am looking for any information in regard to Chris Lowe's keyboard/synth rig.
For those who don't know, Chris Lowe is the keyboard/synth player and other
half of the Pet Shop Boys. If anyone knows of or has specific information in
regard to Chris Lowe's keyboard/synth rig, please post it here or email me. "I
hope the music plays forever................"

Every recent picture I've seen of them performing live shows him using a
JP8000. On tour right now he's also using another Roland (I couldn't tell
which, though), in addition to the JP. At Creamfields, Neil played an M1.
It's tough to tell what's really being used, though, because they seem to
have so much going on backstage in addition to what is seen.

Hope this helps a little.

Robbie

Doesn't Lowe just play these keyboards as
controllers? I think if you are after
the sounds, maybe you wanna check out the
gear list of Pete Gleadall, their sound
programmer. (I don't have it.)

The British magazine, Sound-On-Sound had a nice feature article on
Pete Gleadall a few years ago. Being the excellent magazine they are,
they had lots of pictures of his studio and a list of all his equipment....

I just moved so I have no idea where my issue is located....

The tour program from the PSB's 1991 USA Tour also had a nice two
page layout of the equipment that they used on that tour (mostly rack stuff)

I also have NO idea where my copy of this is at the moment....

Hopefully this helps....

Cheers,

Jeff

SOS allows free access to their archives and provides a useful
search mechanism. i believe the article you're talking about
can be found at:

no nice glossy pics though.

cheers,
k.

I would like to know... I am a huge Pet Shops fan and have all their albums.

But I don't think, from a gear point-of-view, that their sound is all that
interesting. Their sounds themselves are mostly pretty generic and sound like
they could come from most any equipment. I'm pretty sure the old stuf is all
M1.

A few times, they purposely used analog synths to great effect, like on
"Miserablism" (my favorite song) or the TB-303 on "The sound of the atom
splitting" (awesome). It didn't quite work on "So hard."

I think what makes their sound great is the quality of the production (maybe),
and (definitely) how great their songwriting is. It's not the gear or their
sounds themselves (pretty ordinary) but what the Pet Shops compose on it that
is so good.

I saw their show in Dallas a few months ago and Chris was playing a JP-8000
atop a Roland A-90 controller, whereas Neil was playing a small white Roland
controller keyboard.

I've seen a gearlist before. From what I remember, they used a Fairlight,
JV1080, Juno-106, Yamaha DX1, and other gear. A poster on the Gas Station
posted that they used an Oberheim DMX for the drums on West End Girls.

Here's the article on Pete Gleadall, the PSB's programmer, from the
UK Magazine Sound-On-Sound. If you actually bought the magazine
you would get pictures of his studio and a complete gear listing:
