What are you people using out there for jam sessions? Thanx, Manu
Manu,
I cant stand playing through guitar, bass, or so-called
hi-fi keyboard amps, so i usually use a 150WRMS studio
amp and a good pair of flat stereo sudio monitor spreakers.
Why buy a great sounding keyboard and ruin the sound with
a mid-heavy P.A. Sure you make 3 trips to the car but the stuff
is light-wieght and your sound is worth it. When i need to go real
loud i use a 4x10 bass cabinet with a high frequency horn but
im never really happy with it.

Check out the Peavey KB100 (75 watts) or the KB300 (150 watts).

Whatever you do ...don't purchase a Baretta. Mine burnt up without the
slightest bit of abuse, and several professionals in the NY Metro area
have had little luck....Try the Roland keyboard amp...

I have heard great things about the Barbetta lines. You can find their Web
pages which have detailed information on the several different models
available. I eventually went with a Roland KC-500 (slightly different
specs from the Barbettas) which is absolutely amazing. Wonderful wonderful
reproduction.

Hello all,
I'm looking for an amp with built in speakers (combo type) or seperate
along with speaker cabs. The power rating needs to be around 75Watts to
300. It will be used for space jam sessions at other people's houses (ie
this is not for my home studio). I am looking for good bass repro as well
as a wide range.

I've been using a Peavey KB-300 for quite a few years. It has 150
watts, a 15" speaker + horn. I also recommend that you check out the
Roland KC-500 which is also a speaker/horn combo with balanced outputs
(nice). They also have, I think, a slightly smaller KC-300 model.
Good luck,

I highly recommend the Yorkville Sound 300K Stereo Amp. 300 Watts (150
+ 150) with 5 input channels (3 stereo, two mono), stereo aux ins, two
mon-send stereo-return effects loops and built in DIs. Not sure how
popular it is in the US, but it's big in Canada (Yorkville is a Toronto
company).
There was an issue of Keyboard player a while back that included a
buyer's guide for keyboard amps.

rooms, or as on-stage monitoring in conjuction with a feed to the p.a.
Personally, I can highly reccomend the Yorkville line of amps. I own a
Yorkville Bloc100K and it kicks ass! 100 watts, three inputs, built in
reverb, effects loop, 1/4" line out. 1 12" and a tweeter. Also check
out their 200K and 300K. Very reasonably priced, also.
Cheers,

What happened with the Barbetta's - they were getting great reviews last
year - I'm thinking of getting one. What I really want though is a
stereo rig. If $$$ wasn't a problem I'd probably go with JBL floor
monitors and a big juicy power amp, but. . . money is the problem -
anybody got any ideas? I was thinking of going with two Barbetta 32C's
(overkill, maybe) or two of the new little ones. Now I don't know.
Thanks - Robert

Also, is there a way to boost the internal memory in these things?
Anybody try to upgrade it on their own? 72K is just not enough, and
they work well for live performances.

I didn't write the above comment. Someone else posted it, I was
trying to reply to it, although my reply got screwed up by my
mail reading program. What I was trying to say was that I use two
Barbetta Sona 31c's, and they are working quite well for me so far.
Each amp has 2 8" woofers and a tweeter, is bi-amped, and supposedly
has 170 watts total. They are very small and light-weight (only 34 lbs)
and sound very good to me. By using two of them, I can get very loud
if I need to, and I can also run in stereo if I want. Carrying 2 of
them around is not a hassle because they are so small and light.
I can recommend them, but as for reliability, I've only had mine for a
few months, so time will tell.
