Anyone happen to know the settings for "Whiter shade of Pale"? How
about that very empty setting that almost feels like it's pulling the
sound away from you... like a vacuum, sort of. I hear it a lot in
dub and reggae music.

I've been using 888800000 with 2nd percussion for whiter on the melody part.
I chord in the background as well with a setting which doesn't override the
melody ... this changes with my mood !
I don't know if this is the other sound you're looking for but I like
800000008 for those quiet sections where you don't want to be too up-front..
I always like the "whistle" from a open 1'.

Try 888800000 for starters, with all the percussion tabs on the right hand
side in the up position. Experiment. Don't feel like you have to use
alot of drawbars for an authoritative sound.
The most common draw bar settings seem to be
888800000 (John Lord of Deep Purple et all)
and 88800000 (crank the leslie into distortion and play "Gimme Some Lovin'"
Personally I like 888080000 which is "with a Little Help From My friends"
Joe Cocker at Woodstock and a lot of Goldie Mcjohn of Steppenwolf,
856400000 with 2nd percussion which is something my friend Jon uses
880000088 I got off of the Bluesbreaker "Beano" Album
888880088 with C1 and the leslie on is "Like a Rolling Stone"
You will notice how these are all 8s and 0s. Strange huh?
Try 863112358 for gospel.
Basically rock is leaving the bottom for draw bars out and pulling the 1'
out for lead.

"Fearful Earful - the finest project studio in my building."
I don't have the record, and it's too late to make noise, but I could
have sworn Whiter Shade of Pale was 888000888.
"A Whiter Shade of Pale was 888600000, no Vib/Chorus and no Percussion", I read
in a magazine called "Svenska Musikermagasinet". After trying these settings
on my C-3 (with a 122 Leslie), the organ-sound was identical with the one on
the record.
Regards!
Olaf.
