Hey!
I'm about getting a new synthesizer. Am looking at Yamaha S80 and Korg
N1.
Seems to have pretty good weighted keys (and that is a main thing that I
want, 88 weighted keys).
The Yamaha has no General Midi though. The Korg has loooots more sounds.

Yamaha seems to have more kinda "hardware" features, like breath
control, and analog sound input jack.
So kinda hard to know which one to go for.
Ofcourse want the best "master" keyboard, cause ya can always complete
it later with a rack-synth later.
So main thing I guess is to maybe get the best one when it comes to the
"hardware" stuff.

Any suggestions?
Anybody that has been testing them both out?
Whick of the two has better keys?
Maybe there are other ones besides these two in the same price range?
(up to around $2000)
Maybe there is something on one of em that is really bad that i don't
know about?

Please, tell me what you think I should go for!
Thanks!! =)

I'm also in the market for an 88-weighted key synth and I'm impressed with
the Yamaha S80. It has a very good piano-like feel and sound, and it's
expandable. No one around here stocks the Korg N1, so I haven't gotten to
play it. Korg is offering a $100 rebate on the N1 until March 31st. My
only complaint about the S80 is that it doesn't seem very easy to use, and
that's what the reviews say also.

Before I decide to spring for the S80, I'd like to play the new Roland XV-88
88-weighted key synthesizer which was announced last week. Don't know when
it will show up in stores or what it will cost.

I just bought a Roland A-90EX, which is designed mainly as a controller
but has a good set of sounds built in (in an expansion board). The
keyboard has a great feel and the sounds, especially the piano, are very
good. I have found it reasonably user-friendly, too. There are a lot
of buttons on it but the layout makes sense. I haven't used it with an
outside sound source yet, but I think it will be very good for that
function.

I've heard that the MSRP of the XV-88 is $2,300. That means, you'll be
able to buy an XV-88 for around $1,600-1,700.

I nearly bought a Yamaha S80 but decided to wait to see the new Roland
XV-88. I liked the S80 better than any other 88-key synth less than $2500.
The keyboard has a much better touch than the Korg N1 and the sounds were
nice -- especially the piano.

The Roland XV-88 will have 88 weighted keys, over 1000 sounds, 128 voice
polyphony, 2 kinds of expansion slots, and GM. Supposedly you will be able
to buy it for somewhere between $2100 and $2300, which is more than the S80,

which you can get for $1500 or $1600. The S80 is in your price range, but
the XV-88 might be worth checking out. It is supposed to be available in
March. You can read about it on Roland's web site and other sites that
covered NAMM 2000.
