I'm looking for the file O1GSMI.ZIP, a General MIDI patch for the Korg
01/Wfd. I saw it on the Sound Management BBS in Chicago (1-708-949-6434)
but could not download it because I'm not willing to pay $45/year to
download a subset of their files, and $75/year to download all files,
which is pretty steep for *any* BBS, no matter how big, IMHO....

So anyway, if anyone has this or any other good General MIDI patch for
the 01/W I would be grateful. (Or, if anyone has download capability
on this BBS and would be willing to download the file and FTP it to one
of the synth patch sites, like louie.udel.edu:/pub/midi/patches, that
would be wonderful too....)

Hi, Dear Michael:

I have the GM patches, patterns of latin, jazz, house, rock, and reggae,
new sounds I,II, and Korg 30th anniversary power performance series I, II.
Totally 22 files in 01/W format(11 disks).
I'd like to help you, but I do not know how to transfer them to you. Do
I use systerm-exclusive and how to use?
By the way, I am a member of MIDI club in my school, and we are interested
in music via MIDI. Now we have a Korg 01/Wfd, a Roland D20, a Fostex 280 mixer
and 4-track recorder, and 286PC, 386PC in club office. This kind of club on
campus in Taiwan is really rare. Is there something like MIDI club in you
school?

Yes, use the system exclusive MIDI bulk dump.

Here's fairly explicit instructions, but send me e-mail if you need any
help:

First of all, you need an MPU-401 compatible interface, or a soundcard
that can emulate the MPU-401. For example, if you have a PAS-16, you
can add the "M:1,330,2" flag to your MVSOUND.SYS life in CONFIG.SYS.

1) get the program mdf31.zip (Midi Data Filer). It is available from
oak.oakland.edu in the directory /pub/msdos/sound.

2) load a file on disk (A or B) into the 01/Wfd.

3) tell mdf to receive a midi exclusive dump. (e.g. "mdf disk1A.syx")

4) Start the MIDI dump on your 01/Wfd (Dump ALL data option, it is under
Global on one of the pages). Sorry I can't be more specific, I don't
have the Korg with me at work :)

5) You might want to repeat steps 3 and 4 with a different filename,
and use the DOS "comp" command to compare the two files to insure
that you got an accurate dump.

6) Goto step 2, repeat as often as necessary (22 times in your case!)

7) Send the files via FTP to louie.udel.edu or some other nice
FTP site that holds patches. Alternatively, uuencode them, and
mail them to me, and I'll take care of it.

If you could do this, all of us Korg 01/W owners would be forever
grateful.

I just realized something - if any of these are disks that are copyrighted
by Korg you might be breaking copyright laws by distributing them. Unless you
know that they can be distributed, or Korg gives you permission, maybe
you'd better not distribute them.... ***heavy sigh***...

Does anyone know anything about copyright laws on patches/system
exclusive dumps? Can Korg "copyright" a GM patch, for example, or is
this not possible?

I know that I always see systems exclusive dumps of various synth's
initial states available everywhere on the Internet, (for people who
have accidentally wiped out their initial setups) so their initial
setups must not be copyrighted, or they must be freely distributable.
Right?

Does Korg have a BBS (in the US) where we can download patches?

Hi there,
I'm interested too and I think I know a way:
1) Use a zipper to zip the files (e.g. PKZIP)
2) Use a uuencoder (e.g. UUE) to encode it
3) Load the encoded file into your mail-application
4) Send the file
Don't send files that are too long. Start with short files and make them
longer every time you send some so you can find the maximum length.
I hope it'll work. If there are any problems just mail me and I'll try to
solve them.
Please mail them to me too!
Greetings,
Eric.

Did anyone have any luck acquiring a public domain 01-W GM patch? If so,
can it be uploaded to an FTP site? Also, I'm interested in ANY patches
that people may have. Just curious - with the 01-W being such a popular
keyboard, why is nothing available for it on FTP?

Hi All,

Can anyone please send the complete guide how to transfer sounds from my Korg 01W/FD to another Korg 01W/FD via Midi to Midi cable? I had done it in past but forget all options as its long time back.
Any help will be much appreciated.
Thanks
