Check it out below...it looks incredible on paper, so to speak.

Too bad the EX5 beat it. Except for the weighted keys, it kinda makes the
K2500 look like a waste of cash.

Unless you already have a K2500X. Then the EX5 looks less indispensable.

Did you compare the synth engines ?
---------------
Yes. They are both quite impressive. I like the K2x synth engine, but the
lack of effects processing in both models and the excessive size (and price)
of the 2500 lead me to the EX5 with no question. The EX5 matches or exceeds
in most areas, and the analog, and VL capabilities suite my needs better.
Also with 16MB of ROM compressed (Eq. of 32MB), you can't go wrong. Lastly,
the EX5 doesn't require many upgrades to function to my specs. K2x are an
upgrade nightmare. Its sad that you have to pay $800 to have a decent effects
processor in that board. And I can't believe you have to pay to upgrade the
memory for the sequencer.

Well said. I was a proud owner the K2000 until the upgrade nightmare
started. I upgraded O/S twice, bought the sampling option, had to
install the fan kit, bought an external effects processor because I
didn't like the internal one a lot, and so on. Don't get me wrong. I
absolutely loved most of its sounds...but keeping the K2000 up to date
was too much for me.
Well, well. I see the point - as a all-in-one machine, the EX5 is better,
true. I couldn't use my K2500R as only unit, too (there my old JV-880
still does the job), but I just love its sound capabilities when it comes
to weirdness and also punch. The internal FX are worse than shit, but did
you read the specs of their KDFX option ? I think that beats every other
processor, even worth thinking of buying it. So far, the only upgrade I
bought was sampling RAM - it's true that Kurzweil's pricing policy seems
to come from another galaxy...

Not to mention that if you install your own RAM, your warranty is VOID. You
have to take it in to be done. Voiding your warranty on a $4000 keyboard is
insane! Screw Kurzweil - I purchased from a company that has some faith in MY
abilities. With the EX5 - you can install the SCSI yourself. The manual even
has instructions for it.

Yep - when I installed a hard drive into the K25 I bought Kurzweil's
'connection Kit' and found out it contained two cables worth $5 and
instructions how to install it into a K2000 Keyboard version... and that
for $60...
*sigh*
Too bad I love its sound capabilities...
