Hi all - I'm new to this so help me out please... :)

I recently bought an AN1x -

I am spending ages tweaking knobs and perfecting sounds, but
am having trouble saving my creations.

I am doing this:-

1)pressing and holding STORE and then SCENE 1 (which is the scene i am
currently using).

2)pressing YES/ENTER when prompted.

3)pressing STORE, then STORE again (to overwrite current voice)

4)pressing YES/ENTER when prompted.

no matter how i do this in whatever order - it does not store my tweaked
knob settings. when i change the active voice and then go back to the one i
thought i had updated and saved, it is the same as the factory preset and
not my new settings..!!!!?????

HELP ME PLEASE ANYONE!!!!

Thanks in advance,

AJ

hello,

there are two things your talking about here. If you want to store the
currently edited scene to the other scene press store while holding the
adjacent scene, which in effect copies the current scene to the other scene.
there is no need to do this unless you want to copy a scene to an alternate
scene(can also copy scenes between voices, or swap scene in a voice, which are
conviently in the manual). Saving the voice goes like this.....you press store
once, the display will start flashing, while it is flashing you are given the
option of being able to select a differnt patch number from the one you are in
to store in. Push store again and the display will stop flashing and your
given the option to agree to storing at the selected patch number or not
(yes/no). Once you hit yes the patch is saved.

Hi AJ!

I have the same trouble as you have with storing presets.
I do exactly as the manual tells me but the sound created and "saved" is lost
and the old preset is back. (grrrr)
I don“t know if every AN1x owner have this problem, but I have discovered that
to be sure that a tweaked sound will be saved the "edit" sign in the display
must be lit first. "Edit" lits up first after I have started tweaking and
pressed Scene 1 or 2 on my AN1X. Very strange. I think it should be lit as soon
as you start tweaking, agree?
I haven“t had any time to verify other scenarios but if "edit" is lit when I
save, it saves the preset properly on my AN1X.
Maybe Yamaha have some info on this?

yes i know how to store a VOICE but it wont save my "tweaked knob" settings
in the scene save.

It always defaults back to the original saved voice settings.

Your throwin me for a loop here. Scene Save? Tweaked knobs, you tweak knobs,
sure.... you like the sound you've made, sure....I explained that you can save
scenes to alternate voices, alternate scenes, and swap scenes. There is also
the posibility to store the result of scene morph to a specific scene, but...in
order to save a scene though you still have to save it as part of a voice. One
last thing i just thought of is that if you are tweaking from the control
matrix(assignable knobs) and the parameters aren't assigned as direct in
"depth" but as a positive or negative value then you wouldn't be able to save
the result in sound. You would have to tweak the said parameters directly from
the parameter group.

Yeah, I know a little of what you're talking about. I spent about 20
minutes getting a sound with some really nice LFOs going, tried saving it
and the god damn factory sound was still there. I hit STORE twice, then
YES and it didnt store all of the parameters I specified. It stored the
envelopes, etc, but NOT the LFO section. WTF! >:o(
Has anyone else had this problem. Any one interested in the possibilty
of purchasing MY AN1x?

Yea what Christian metz said, and
if you want to record your every single knob tweak and nuance of your
performance into a sesequencer you have to go into the the AN1x's 2nd MIDI
mode.
You have to power up while holding the {ASSIGN} button.
See page 9 of the AN1x Data List booklet for a listing of the Control
Change messages sent for each parameter.
You shouldn't use this mode if the AN1x is a master controller, as this will
mess with all your oth er synths as well!! Real time control of them.
Theoretically, you could control cutoff, and what not to say your JV2080, OR
A3000
Hint, hint.<wink wink> CRAZY MAN!!!!!
This is another reason why the AN1x is the best analog modeling synth <IMHO>

You have Voice Store, and Scene Store.
VOICE STORE: Lets you store the edited voice data including scene 1 and 2 to
a new memory location.
after editing a voice, press store switch.
2.then enter a number 1-128.
3. then press the store switch again.
sure? y/n
press the yes/enter to execute the voice.
That's it.
SCENE STORE:
is handy for storing the knob position settings created during Scene Control
to one of the scene switches
1. Hold the [store] button, and press the [scene 1] or [scene 2] switch
sure? y/n
press yes/enter.
then
Execute a Voice Store operation. to store the scene data as part of the
voice along with the scene on/off status.

...and Christian is right on all accounts...

...and this is also true. Under VOICE/SCENE Setup check the value for
Depth under the Ctrl Matrix for the Set No. related to the parameter you
are tweaking. Change the value from a +/- offset to Direct and you can
proceed as you expect.

Personally, this arrangement never bothered me - I always make my edits
from the Knob Parameter Group just as C. mentions.

Just to rule out the notion that something cooky happened to your an1x which
won't allow you to save patches you ought to back up whatever patches you do
have(if you ever could store any?) via sysex, then do a factory reset. I had a
problem once where my ribbon controller wouldn't work at all, i thought i may
have spilled something on it...or it just went sour prematurely. I ended up
taking it to the authorized yamaha dealer in town where i live and, blah
blah....3 weeks later i get a call saying that it works fine now after a factory
reset. 35 dollars later i had my an1x back without any of my patches, 2 broken
knobs and a broken power button, all of which they happily glued back on, the
patches were gone forever :(

You just need to hold down the numbers 7, 8 & 9 then power up your an1x.

Good Luck

Yea that too. Are you remembering to select the number where you want it?
Ok. Here is how you can test every button on the AN1x if the factory restore
doesn't work.
While pressing the "0" "-" and "+" buttons all at the same time, while
hoding these turn on the an1x until you see "Test Mode" in the LCD
Now the Minus and Plus keys will cycle you through the tests, they are
listed in the LCD.
I believe Store get's you rolling. It cycles you through executing the
tests. ONce pass the LCD, AND BATTERY test, you will have to start twisting,
and pressing knobs, and buttons, and LED's that light up. Pressing all 61
black and whites.
Remember "store" "portomento", if you get lost, just turn it off, and start
again.
Man I hope this helps. Write down what procedure you do it as you do it. I
think you are missing a step, or it just needs to be reset back to factory
preset. Save your stuff first.
Good Luck! Let us know.

Dude, I feel your frustration! ok, ok ok.
Try this:
Make your changes, then hist Store Store, Yes

Did it do it?
If not backup your data, and do a factory reset. Then try again.
It may just got lopsided, and disoriented.
