Does anyone know how to hard reset a Boss SE-50. I just pulled mine out of
storage (probably hasn't been used in a year) and all the programs under
100 are just completely garbaged out. I remember hearing some time ago
about a 'power-up' key combination.... anyone know it?

Thanks in advance.

I have it written on a piece of paper somewhere....but you could just
remove the battery. That works just as well...

Hi Phil,

As i recall from a couple of weeks ago when i changed the battery, the
parameter and number change keys are held down while powering up. Not
absolutely sure these are the ones but do remember they are similar keys on
the top right face of the unit that are not side by side. Might be worth
trying until i can get home to the manual
Hope this helps til then

That sounds like the internal battery has gone. I had exactly the same
problem with my SE-50 but replacing the battery cured the problem.

To reset the user programs hold down the PARAMETER UP and VALUE UP
keys at the same time while powering on. If the next time you power on
all the user presets are garbage again it means the battery will need
replacing. Do the following :-

Remove ALL the screws you can find (except for those on the bottom of
the unit), and carefully lift off the top circuit board and flip it
over. You'll see a circular battery held down by a crosswise holder.
Use a small flathead srewdriver to slide it out, and replace it with a
CR 2032 3-volt battery (should cost you less than 2 quid), available
at electronics stores. Just slide in the new battery and you're set.

Good luck

Press and hold down the "Parameter Up" and the "Value Up" buttons while you
power up the unit, then release the buttons and press the "Write" button
twice.

Here's how to do a hard reset of the SE-50's factory presets:

1. Turn power OFF.

2. Hold the PARAMETER ^ and VALUE ^ buttons while turning power ON.
The display will now read: Factory Preset
Y:Write N:Exit

3. Press WRITE. The display will read: Factory Preset
SYSTEM -> No. 100

4. Specify the desired range of programs to be initialized. Set the
starting point using the NUMBER ^ v, and the end point by using
VALUE ^ v. Leaving the display as SYSTEM -> No. 100 will
initialize the system settings (MIDI transmit/receive channel,
OMNI mode, Program change map, Range of program numbers selectable
with foot switch, and Effect off mode) as well as programs 1
through 100.

5. Press WRITE to initialize the programs.

Hope this helps.

Cheers :')
