The air pressure is transmitted as aftertouch. There is no reed or
reed imitation to make pitch bend data. It's more like a MIDI
recorder than a saxophone. 2 1/2 Oktaves, transposition is possible.
Not as bad as I thought before I got one, but not really a professional
instrument. (I think the octave selection is better than than the
YAMAHA WX-7`s.)
I bought mine for $30 used in Germany (a good buy...).

Happy programming,
Joerg
i just got one for $99 from Consumer Electronics
and am happy with it.
it sends out aftertouch messages from your breath.
unfortunately my guitar synth doesn't use aftertouch, so I can't
say how well that works (it also sends out velocity which has been
working fine).
it also sends out program change 1-6 when you hit the 'tone' button
believe it or not, i kinda like the built in sounds (particularly
sax and clarinet). it has a portamento which is very nice, for
softening 1/2 steps and for computery type effects). portamento
on is also transmitted (and also ignored by my guitar synth -
its ok i'm planning on getting a new sound module soon)
its portability makes it incredibly fun - you can play it in bed

A friend of mine has one of these and it's fun to PLAY with but it's internal
sounds are pretty cheesy. It works much better with a real tone module. It's
usable but I wouldn't get to serious about it. He has recently bought a real sax
and also has a Yamaha WX-11.

I've had mine for a few years. I remember Service Mechandise was selling them
for about 99 bucks, like you paid, but Big Lots was selling them for 20 bucks a
piece! I bought mine at Big Lots. I was in high school at the time, and in
the band, and when they found out about this, almost everyone in my sax
section went out and bought one. We could come in to school and play DH-100
octets! It was wild. I even wrote a quartet for them.
Really, I don't think they're worth much more than $20; I definitely don't
think they're worth $99 a pop. I don't consider mine as much more than a toy.
I still use it, though. It's good for practicing my sax music late at night
when everyone's asleep. The fingerings are about the same, and I can plug up
earphones so as not to disturb anybody.
I *have* tried plugging it up to an external sound module, and that's
definitely the way to go. The built in sounds are pretty lame (although I
kind-of like the clarinet). Also, the only jacks are an earphone jack and a
MIDI OUT jack (no IN or THRU), so you can't control it from a sequencer and
there's no good way of hooking it up to an amplifier.
If you're considering the DH-100 as a serious MIDI instrument, forget it. Go
with something like a Yamaha wind controller instead. But for something just
to play around with, the DH-100 is great, especially if you don't pay too much
for it.

I bought a DH-100 for $30 at a drugstore about a year ago & I LIKE IT.
There's not too many things you can buy for $30, and I've gotten some use
of out of the DH-100, using it to power an SY22... makes for some fun
because I can only play a keyboard for a small amount of time before
getting bored but playing the DH can make for hours of fun. Ya the
preset voices are pretty weak but they do sound funny, and its pretty
good to get something you can play by itself or as a MIDI controller for
only $30!!

...moreover, the last time I saw "The Residents" (two or three years
ago) they made heavy use of the DH100.
...however, I use the Yamaha WX-7 even though I own both
(and if anyone has a used WX-7 at a good price I am
interested!)
