Does anyone know anything about a Chinese make of accordion - Hero, based
in Shanghai.

The reason is simple. I got as a Christmas present a child's melodeon made by
this company. It was bought at the Bedworth Folk Festival craft fair where
some guy was selling it for £24 including a case. It's a one-row in C (roughly,
anyway) and seems ideal to sing with. It also sounds a good deal better than I
suspect it was designed to sound (my assumption being `cheap and cheerful' as
the design objectives rather than `good engineering').

Any input on the Hero company, the melodeon, its possible age etc (it looks
quite new, with plastic - feels like, anyway - ends that have a red, `pearlised'
finish) would be gratefully received. I assume these instruments were made by
the thousand at one time, and maybe still are.

They still are made but they may have changed the name. Mine was called a
Goodlin. House of Musical Traditions sells them as well as Lark in the Morning.
I feel that they are bassically a toy BUT they are very playable and made
fairly well for the price. I had the 8 bass piano model that I paid about $90
new.

There also very fun, portable and kind of expendable if something bad should
happen.

If you want to buy one of these PA for considerably less than $90, get in touch
with smy...@ix.netcom.com here in California. He posts to this list but probably
won't read it until next week.

The one I'm referring to is two reeds.
