I second that david.
Tom played the Gola on a TV show called ''Shindig'' ( with ''Steak and
Kidney'' Devine;-)
I was on that one with John Carmichael's Band. I also remember my
Late father once telling me that Tom borrowed my Dad's Accordion back in
the late 60's,
to do a recording in Switzerland. He was promised an album, which he never
got. If you see Tom
before I do, please tell him he owes me ;-))
Cheers

With all the discussion about this instrument being the world class epitome,
what is the reason to sell it?

Because Tom has two of them as well as his bugari and other accordions,
two Golas is excessive bulk buying :)

Hi David
When I agreed with you, it was to the fact that it is a superb instrument
that Tom has ( I wouldn't say its the finest available though).
I have tried a number of Gola's, some very good, some not so good.
In my opinion they are way over priced at £18,000 new.
I would say however, that Tom's is worth what he is asking.
Regards

Hi Gary,

The wording for the Ad was sent to me by Tom, I have not seen the
instrument and in my hands it would probably be like 'pearls to swine'

I get a lot of enjoyment out of my 1955 Scandalli and would not be able
to fully appreciate an expensive instrument like this, if anyone is
giving one away however, I would fully appreciate it sending to the
following address :) I could get to appreciate a free one.

Professionals like yourself would get the use out of something like
this, it's like computers, it's frustrating seeing a beginner to
computers buying a £1600 computer and then simply running a
wordprocessor on it when a professional in computers like myself could
make a lot more use of it and appreciate it more than them, I am in that
beginners category when it comes to accordions.

Hi David...As a new accordion player at age 52 with no other musical
experience, I had a one time opportunity to get a new "top of the line
accordion" direct (less and 1/2 price) from a very well respected maker in
Italy so I did. What a difference. I had only been playing about 6 months,
but I could tell a big difference in tone, resposiveness of the reeds and
compression right away and my other accordion was considered professional
quality...I agree with Dan Lavy's earlier post about getting the best
instrument you can. Although I can't press the outer limits of the accordion
envelope yet, I can appreciate playing a fine instrument...Best Regards the
all, great NG...Ross

Precisely what I was speaking about weeks ago regarding accordions and :
"wants" vs. "needs." From my experience all these years, I find
nonprofessionals ordering Golas and they use them to play polkas and the
like.....not that it is wrong, I don't mean that, but it's like having a
Ferrari to drive to the store. You just don't need the power. With that priced
the way it is, then we have those complaining about $5000, and/but wanting top
grade reeds, workmanship, materials, etc. You can't have both unless you're
dealing with someone not familiar with values.

May your reeds "speak" well of you

Remember Mario Conway with his GOLA a few years back. Wonder what
happened to him.

Will do Gary, he is our guest artist in two months, I will be putting
him up for the night. Last time he was here he stayed in my caravan, I
did offer the choice of a B+B but he was happy to stay in the caravan
while I was working on the house. The only problem he had was the rain
waking him up at 4am, it's a good job I didn't butter some bread on both
sides and throw it on the caravan roof so it sticks whichever way it
lands, the birds which then arrive at 5am sound like elephants on the
roof :) It's a brilliant trick if you get the chance to try it :)
This time he will have his own room in the house though.

I met up with Mario last week!
He had taken a back seat from playing after his mother
passed away. ( he was very, very close to her). He is back playing again
now and enjoying life again.
A nice guy.
