I wonder if there are any players of this instrument in this newsgroup?

These are fairly rare instruments, even here in the UK where it's said
that the configuration of them was invented by Jimmy Shand.

I searched for one for months for one of these and now I've two, a
Hohner Echo III in bad need of a treble keyboard assembly and a Paolo
Soprani Elite III in need of a service.

It's nice to play coming from a B/C melodeon that had useless basses and
a PA that now seems alien to me.

There's a guy named Des Reagan here in the Los Angeles, CA area who
plays one. In fact he bought one that I had for sale at a local
consignment shop. It was a Paolo Soprani with LMMM tuning. The only
proble was that it was very heavy. Anyway, it's now in good hands.

Shand improved the design, it was around before him.

The Windygates Button Key Accordion Club in Fife (Scotland) has
regular Shand Morino get-togethers. Apparently the ones made
directly to Shand's spec were fantastically durable and a lot
of them are still going fifty years later with ever-increasing
resale values.

I know a local player well. He plays *way* too fast on the thing.

Makes my brain hurt just thinking about that key layout. Apparently
Shand himself said that if he'd had his time over again he'd have
learnt the CBA instead.

The thing to remember is that this instrument is till a diatonic box,
not really a chromatic like a CBA.

Yes, I play a Paolo Soprani 3-row BCC# with 80 basses. They may be rare in
the UK in general (I know of only 2 English players), but are reasonably
widespread in Scotland. I know over a dozen players, and there were more
than 20 of these instruments on stage at the Button Box Gathering in
Aviemore in September 2005. Most players have the Hohner Shand Morino, but
there are also boxes by Paolo Soprani, Guerrini, Paramount (Busilaccio),
Hohner Gaelic, Fantini, Supersalas (one on eBay UK now), and probably
others.

I'm almost certain that John Kirkpatrick plays one of these.

He's one of the 2, though I've never managed to hear him play.

Oh my word. You should.

There is certainly one regular contributor to Melodeon .net you plays BCC#

Roy.
