Hi
I heard about a lady accordion player from Newfoundland on a CBC broadcast
last winter, I think her name was Minnie Lee or something like that. She
is 70 some years of age and has at least one CD out.
I would appreciate getting the precise name if anyone knows it.
Thanks

Her name is Minnie White. She actually made four albums, only one of
which, 'The Hills of Home,' I've heard. A first rate player, and to
my mind especially so since she plays a Hohner Erica tuned to
(I think) A/D as smooth as butter on warm day.

Surely a national treasure.

Check out <http://www.singsong.nfld.com> This is the home page for an
independent label in St. John's that produces CD's that reflect the
Newfoundland expeerience in songs and music.

I have a CD of Minnie White from 1994. It's called 'Minnie White The
Hills of Home' on the Singsong label. Their address is P.O. Box 6371
St. John's Newfoundland, Canada, A1C 6J9. I believe also the radio
program you were refering to was part of a recording session done by
CBC in St. John's. They might also have that available.

I have a rather strange story about that. I was in St. John's in a
great old pub (the Ship I believe) to see Minnie White play. I had
seen posters around town. When it became obvious that she wasn't going
to appear I asked the barman and got a very vague response about it
being a mistake. I later found out from a friend who works at the
CBC(Canadian Broadcasting Corp.) that she was in town doing a
recording section for them. When they found out she had arranged a gig
at the bar without consulting CBC they kicked up a fuss and she
cancelled. Very creepy!
