Can anyone tell me anything about current item # 7337771273 on eBay,
particularly playing weight and treble reed octave configuration?
Time's running out and answers are slow in coming from the seller.

Cheers,
Mark

I think the reasons why the answers are slow in coming is that I don't
believe the seller is a player...or somethiong else is fishy

how can this box have 3 across middle reeds and then three middle
reeds and a low reed.
Hpow can this box have 2 bass stops that both take out the thirds in
the bass

The seller must be asking someone else to get the answers...

As Gaillards are custome oredered and expensive the owners know
exactly whay they have

I am very wary of this and would not buy it.

The box is worth $2500 plus maybe as high as $3500

still this is just too wormy or else I am overly sensitive

I wouldn't buy anything on e bay

Which brings me to another point... you don't have to sell a Gaillard
on E bay there are enough people who wnat one and are willing to pay

just my opinion.

and if it's 5-6 kilos this is an 11-13 pound box...
my Castagnari Mory 2 1/2 row... 11 pounds and thats with 12 basses
and 4 switches..

the only negative I ever heard abotu Gaillardss was the weight
on a 5th (4th) apart box or a B/C that might matter so much but on a
C#/D push pull system that's a lot of weight to shove around.

I wouldn't buy anything major and fragile on e-bay from a seller I had
any least suspicion about. Pay-pal only. Preferably with the extra-cost
guarantee and (important!) without the "as is" wording which invalidates
the guarantee. From someone who has a significant selling (not just
buying) history.

Caveat emptor. If something looks too good to be true, it probably isn't
true. There are exceptions, but never gamble with more money than you
can afford to lose.

On the other hand the seller has a 99.5% rating with plenty of transaction
history. It's a lot of money for a box you haven't played yet. If you have
played a Gaillard before and think it is the cat's pajamas, then maybe go
for it. Best thing would be to try to find out form the actual owner more
about it but there isn't time left for that. The seller is probably acting
for a consignment owner.

The "Paypal" only condition looks nice to buyers.Too nice. The problem
is:Paypal is not so friendly to sellers, and every day more and more sellers
are not accepting it anymore. If a buyer changes his/her mind for x reason
after receiving the item, or even some weeks after, and makes the minimal
claim to Paypal, absurd or not, Paypal will frozen seller's funds for
several weeks until the matter clears. That is completely unfair. On the
other hand, if PAYPAL is so safe for buyers, why are so many "Paypal" only
sellers with negative feedback?
I believe more important than the method of payment is an analisys of
seller's history, and acting with a minimum of common sense. Regarding this
accordion, if I had the doubts expressed for the person who started this
thread, I simply would'nt buy!

I have use paypal for years, ever since that company started, for hundreds
of transactions, and only had one problem that was resolved in my favor when
I sent them the delivery confirmation number. People who complain about
paypal and won't use it, are sometimes the fiends. Also your observation
about only using paypal, and none other, may also be valid. that may
indicate a fly-by-nite who wants to get maximum $$ and fold up operations
quickly, and paypal may be the easiest electronic payment system for them to
set up. The worst on ebay are those who have an electronic system other than
paypal and refuse to use paypal, since paypal will quickly freeze their
money if they are ripping off a lot of people. So using or not using paypal
is not a definitive criterion. Some people who refuse to accept paypal are
just paranoid, and others are crooks, and others just don't have the
patience to resolve an issue with paypal. Paypal is an excellent service and
I have found it to be very fair.

I can't explain your experience, and know nothing of class-action suits
against them. I don't mean that to reflect on your veracity. My experience
with paypal has been nothing but positive. If I had more specifics about
your problem, I might comment on it.

First I've heard of that. Citation?

I'm not hugely pro-paypal. I just don't know of any solution for that
kind of electronic commerce that's _more_ trustworthy.

These days PayPal is part of eBay, which is a big enough concern that
they can't affort to piss people off too badly.

Some buyers won't do business with you if you don't. Your choice.

(That's true of credit cards too. They too extract a fee and open you to
chargebacks. But if you don't take 'em you may lose the sale.)

I canceled my account with PayPal after the SECOND time they had
their member accounts information stolen. I wouldn't even consider
having my financial information stored in their computers.

How do you know the information was stolen? People are throwing around
accusations against paypal without any backup information. I've had hindreds
or transactions with it an I am very satisfied. It's easy to make claims
using the internet without any evidence or often bogus evidence. I'm not
saying that's the case here, but my experience with the company makes me
doubt it. The way most people get their information stolen is responding to
emails asking for information and being redirected to a fake website. For
instance, oday I got an email pretending to be from paypal saying that they
had given me a new email address, and to activate it I had to log in and
give my old email address. I get several of these emails a day because I
have a website eith my email address and paypal shopping cart buttons. I
have never heard of paypal having information stolen, except by people
volunteering it to phishing website links in phony emails.

Hi Ike,

I didn't mean to upset you by my comment about PayPal. Unfortunately,
the news about the breakin to PayPal computers by hackers who stole
user account information wound up in many newspapers, at least here
in the Seattle area. Plus it was treated in major news services on
the internet. It happened about two years ago and was similar to the
recent cases where Visa and Mastercard had their client information
compromised by the bad guys out there in cyberland. The bad aspect of
this whole subject is that some companies don't tell their clients
when something of this nature happens (it might hurt their business).
Congress is now contemplating making a law to force companies to
immediately tell their clients when any personal data has been
compromised. California has a similar law, but its not foolproof.
Washington is considering a law similar to California's, but with the
loophole plugged.

I agree with you that the "function" PayPal provides is a good one
and that it works quite well. However, I just happen to follow the
news very seriously about companies that didn't invest in the
necessary safeguards to protect client personal data from thieves. I
particularly frown on companies that withhold possible data
compromise occurrances from their clients. Unfortunately, PayPal was
in this group. I received a letter from VISA when their client data
was stolen with a note that they would contact me further if indeed
my data had been included in the set of compromised data. I never
received such a letter from PayPal. You may feel comfortable with
PayPal because of its desirable functionality and the fact that it
has served you well. I contend that is a different thought than the
one I mentioned. There are many ways the bad guys can attempt to get
our personal financial information. It's on us to protect ourselves
from every method they use. When thieves steal millions of financial
records from institutions we use, it's on us to do something about
it. They won't necessarily do it for us. Now that congress is getting
into the act the situation may change, and hopefully for the better.

I'm curious about the outcome of the eBay auction of the discussed
Gaillard. Does anyone on this list know the person who bought it? I'd
be interested to know how it turned out regarding the system and
quality of the box.
