Cheers,
Mark
how can this box have 3 across middle reeds and then three middle
reeds and a low reed.
Hpow can this box have 2 bass stops that both take out the thirds in
the bass
The seller must be asking someone else to get the answers...
As Gaillards are custome oredered and expensive the owners know
exactly whay they have
I am very wary of this and would not buy it.
The box is worth $2500 plus maybe as high as $3500
still this is just too wormy or else I am overly sensitive
I wouldn't buy anything on e bay
Which brings me to another point... you don't have to sell a Gaillard
on E bay there are enough people who wnat one and are willing to pay
just my opinion.
and if it's 5-6 kilos this is an 11-13 pound box...
my Castagnari Mory 2 1/2 row... 11 pounds and thats with 12 basses
and 4 switches..
the only negative I ever heard abotu Gaillardss was the weight
on a 5th (4th) apart box or a B/C that might matter so much but on a
C#/D push pull system that's a lot of weight to shove around.

I wouldn't buy anything major and fragile on e-bay from a seller I had
any least suspicion about. Pay-pal only. Preferably with the extra-cost
guarantee and (important!) without the "as is" wording which invalidates
the guarantee. From someone who has a significant selling (not just
buying) history.
Caveat emptor. If something looks too good to be true, it probably isn't
true. There are exceptions, but never gamble with more money than you
can afford to lose.
On the other hand the seller has a 99.5% rating with plenty of transaction
history. It's a lot of money for a box you haven't played yet. If you have
played a Gaillard before and think it is the cat's pajamas, then maybe go
for it. Best thing would be to try to find out form the actual owner more
about it but there isn't time left for that. The seller is probably acting
for a consignment owner.

First I've heard of that. Citation?
I'm not hugely pro-paypal. I just don't know of any solution for that
kind of electronic commerce that's _more_ trustworthy.
These days PayPal is part of eBay, which is a big enough concern that
they can't affort to piss people off too badly.
Some buyers won't do business with you if you don't. Your choice.
(That's true of credit cards too. They too extract a fee and open you to
chargebacks. But if you don't take 'em you may lose the sale.)

I didn't mean to upset you by my comment about PayPal. Unfortunately,
the news about the breakin to PayPal computers by hackers who stole
user account information wound up in many newspapers, at least here
in the Seattle area. Plus it was treated in major news services on
the internet. It happened about two years ago and was similar to the
recent cases where Visa and Mastercard had their client information
compromised by the bad guys out there in cyberland. The bad aspect of
this whole subject is that some companies don't tell their clients
when something of this nature happens (it might hurt their business).
Congress is now contemplating making a law to force companies to
immediately tell their clients when any personal data has been
compromised. California has a similar law, but its not foolproof.
Washington is considering a law similar to California's, but with the
loophole plugged.
I agree with you that the "function" PayPal provides is a good one
and that it works quite well. However, I just happen to follow the
news very seriously about companies that didn't invest in the
necessary safeguards to protect client personal data from thieves. I
particularly frown on companies that withhold possible data
compromise occurrances from their clients. Unfortunately, PayPal was
in this group. I received a letter from VISA when their client data
was stolen with a note that they would contact me further if indeed
my data had been included in the set of compromised data. I never
received such a letter from PayPal. You may feel comfortable with
PayPal because of its desirable functionality and the fact that it
has served you well. I contend that is a different thought than the
one I mentioned. There are many ways the bad guys can attempt to get
our personal financial information. It's on us to protect ourselves
from every method they use. When thieves steal millions of financial
records from institutions we use, it's on us to do something about
it. They won't necessarily do it for us. Now that congress is getting
into the act the situation may change, and hopefully for the better.
