"The squeezebox is no square no more" - unless you do not play
chemnitzer, bandoneon .... and a few another way shaped "pull and
push" air blow makers.
Anyway Mr. Alex G. from New York was very intresting person to
reporters as a representative of the accordion community. After all,
he was quoted in another report that he likes accordion because, it
gives him an opportunity to drink and to dance. Indeed, it seems like
a "very good motivation" to get involved....
Enjoy it,
W.D.

Because they are well built and Ernest Deffner Inc, is definitely one of the
best companies to do business with. My midi Titano-Master is just what they
promised and if you read Phil Ventura's article you will see what he thinks
of it and them.
I have had my accordion for over a month, and am finding more ways that it
pleases me. GO TO THEM!!!

Gary D would also.. and probably rightly so, say something about the
hand position as well.
Regarding accordion position and not being cool... if I see one more
young adult - especially young and teen girls,... and really, anyone
much under 6 feet tall... playing a full size 120 bass I am going to
screem.
I can't imagine anything about the piano accordion that is more
detrimental to it's future/sales (outside of the typical music
selection for students)then to watch someone with a refrigerator on
their lap trying to play and entertain... and even look remotely
"cool".
best to all,

Thanks for that Tom!....I'm 5'8".....that's it....I'm 48 so I don't think
I'll grow any more.....when I was taking lessons years ago it was alway just
assumed that you end up with a 21" full size keyboard and at least a 4/5
reed box......Now that I bought my first ever new accordion, I opted for a
high-quality 72bass 3/4 reed.....It fits me and I think people should get
accordions to suit their size and build first and then try to include as
many of the desired features into it while staying in their proper
size......Remember too, as you get older you shrink a bit....I've seen a lot
of old players struggling with their Cordovox's who perhaps used to be able
to stand all night playing them but......as you say .....they look like
they're under a refigerator....

Hey I have alot of respect for you Big box players, me I prefer the Button
Accordion, not only is it more Traditional for Irish Music but it also is
alot smaller, even a really heavy one like a 9 Coupler Paolo Soprani can
still be played off the knee relatively easily... well at least for a
faily big guy like me.

I have a Petosa "Antico" that I bought new in the 1980s. I've been
extremely happy. Not only is it the right size (96 bass, so it's not too
large or heavy but has all of the counterbass and diminished chords, and
LMM on the right hand so you can play Irish, tango, contra dance and
French cafe music with some credibility) but it's incredibly pretty
since they left the mahogany exposed and dressed it up with a little
inlay like you'd find on a slightly fancy guitar. It lacks the overlap
you'd want for playing the bass in keys like C# or Gb, but I can
honestly say that I have never run into the ends of the bass-keyboard in
practical usage.
The prettiness of the stained wood -- instead of MOTS -- always gets an
audience on my side, even if they're pre-disposed to be skeptical of
accordions. They look at the Petosa and it almost goes in a different
category.

I have very intersting piano accordion that I bought at eBay thinking
that it is full size but it turned to be a small size for the lady or
the teenager.
It's name is Empire made by Universal Accordions in Italy. It has
L/M/H reed configuration and 9 registers on treble side where two are
for opening an closing for specially designed mute box that stays
above keyboard valves under the grill and acts like a chamber system
for 7 sounds and it makes another seven different sounds or a total of
14 sounds. It has also custom made pick up system and 3 registers on
bass size. The treble keyboard is only 15 3/4" the size really for
very small hand but the handling of it is excellent even for me.
Very beautiful body with gold laminate on halftone keys and the gold
bass buttons. The entire white pearl body, gold and silver grill make
it look very rich and appealing.
When I bough it, it had not workiong basses that some mechanic in the
Norhern state messed up. The seller could not take it anymore and sold
it at ebay. On eBay, I was chased by happy bidders 28 times and after
it went to 32 hits I was a winner and I paid more that I thought I
will cost me. I am glad that I got it. I fixed all basses and it
turned to be an excellent accordion.
At the beginning, I dreammed that it would be a nice instrument for
my grand daughter but it looks that she doesn't appreciate my plans
for her in the future and refuses even to touch yet a smaller
accordion to practice. So here we go again!
I decided to sell this one too but not on eBay. The eBay seems to be
very fruitless effort during these days. Anybody, who likes or needs
that kind of quality instrument can give me an offer by email of no
less than $800-900. The deal will include new carrying case and custom
made all leather shoulder straps. If interested, please email me and I
will send a folder with digitized picture(s) of this accordion.
I use myself 3 reed LMM or LMH 17" keyboard accordions and also two
reed MM 34/80 size which I like the best. The full 4 reed block
accordions in size 18" - 19.25" are too big for me now and are too
heavy to play them sitting and especially in standing position. I
really enjoy plying 25/32 bass or 25/24 MM small accordions. I just
have to transpose all melodies so I could play them on keys above C-0
up to two octaves high. Playing of 25 keys PA needs some adjustements
to be made but it is an answer how to prolong playing an accordion.
Enjoy it,
W.D.
